I haven't played 40k since 3rd edition and am thinking of getting back into it. I am thinking of going Chaos with allies. Learning toward Daemon allies. Because, well. They look bad ass. I'll be building my first army in years. The list doesn't need to be crazy competitive.

Main Army:
HQ: Typhus/Lord + Sorc
Troop: Plaguemarines/Zerkers
Fast: Drake/Raptors w/ flamers
Heavy: Land Raider
Elite: Hellbrutes/Terminators

Ally:
HQ: Bloodthirster/Herald of Nurgle
Troop: Bloodletters/Plaguebearers
Fast: Drones/Hounds
Heavy: D. Prince/Soulgrinder
Elite: Bloodcrushers

If you guys can suggest a half decent list out of some combination of the units above that would be great. The only thing I absolutely have to have is something I can proxy dreadnoughts for. Cause I love dreadnoughts. I would assume that would be hellbrutes?

Hello and welcome back to the community!

If you are wanting to go with Typhus (why not i say, looks badass and is dangerous in the right situations) then i would definately look at utilising the Plague Zombies that he unlocks, they are dirt cheap and provide him with the cover he needs to get into close combat.

Plague marines in rhino's would also be a safe bet to use if you take Typhus as they become scoring troops if he is your warlord. These should be taken in seven man squads and loaded out with either two plasma guns or two melta guns and preferably mounted in a Rhino.

Nurgle obliterators are a safe bet aswell for heavy support, i tend to run them in two two man squads. Then really it is up to you how best to fill the other slots, a Heldrake is good for anti-air and perhaps a forgefiend with hades autocannons to back the heldrake up, granted the forgefiend doesnt have skyfire however you can bet out of the eight dice you'd be rolling with the forgefiend in the shooting phase at least one of those will hit something in the sky and with flyers generally being low armour values one shot could be enough to take it out of the sky.

Hope that helps - aware there aren't many of the units in there that you put up on your list. I get carried away with Nurgle

As stated above welcome back,

Chaos has some cool stuff, no doubt about it. Hard to make competitive lists with but i think they can work well.

First thing - Be'lakor

This guy is an auto include in my armies now. He comes with access to all of telepathy, this gives you a shrouded deamon prince with a supremely badass weapon and he can cast invisibility whenever. Amorbane and fleshbane, can kill a wraithknight or any walker with his awesome initiative before he gets hit.

Second thing, spawn because Be'lakor is in my list I want enemies to fail fear tests to give him warp charge and continue my physic warfare. Mark of nurgle and invisibility make them all but invincible, put a nurgle bike lord in their with a black mace and he will beat some ass.

Plague marines are solid troops choices great at objective holding, need a rhino though.

As for heavy support, I like mauler fiends in 7th. I am trending towards an assaulting army here but I think it holds merit. With 1-2 helldrakes 1-2 units of nurgle spawn and 3 maulerfiends Be'lakor + whatever scoring units you decide to use your opponent will have a ton to worry about.

Ally some deamons for extra fun, a grimoure of true names is always a good call. Also more physker mastery levels to try to get more invisibility.

Soul grinders are good, I like slanesh soul grinders so they are super fast to get in range for their baleful torrent and then assualt.

You definately need to spam mobs of cultist. Can plague bearers substitute as zombies?
At the moment, you could put typhus an 4 other termi in a land raider. Run 2 squads of plague on foot even. Skip the helbrute and only run raptors for 2 meltas.

Daemon allies should take soulgrinder and drones.
