Silly question, but I am looking for some lighting options for my hobby desk.
What types of lamps do you guys use on your painting tables and photo booths??
Currently I just use a small desk lamp, but it's lacking and I want something better.
Thanks!
Falco

I have one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DNFLYS/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It clamps to the edge of my desk and I position it over my left shoulder to reduce shadows.
On the right side of my desk, I have one like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Boston-Harbor-Architect-Swing-Black/dp/B002ZKDUVE/ref=sr_1_4?s=lamps-light&ie=UTF8&qid=1410535101&sr=1-4&keywords=lamp
Both of these lamps are lit with daylight florescent bulbs and my entire painting area is lit by four recessed lights with daylight floods, two of which are directly over my desk. For photography, I turn off the overhead lights and use these desk lamps in conjunction with my photo tent.

Any old lamp will do, IMO - it's more about the bulbs. I use a no-name lamp I found in the basement of a house I rented in college, but it produces great light with a daylight bulb installed. Adjustability is key, especially if your space is limited (easier to adjust lamp for proper lighting than your whole position) - swing arms work for this, mine has a gooseneck. If you can swing it, multiple lights are best, as you won't have to contend with any shadows. One adjustable lamp with a good bulb, though, is sufficient.

I have an OTT-Lite like this one...
... normally this lamp would be around $100, but I got a damaged one (busted magnifier attachment) for $20 at my local Jo-Ann Fabrics. Otherwise oadie's advice is sound in that it's the daylight bulb that you're after.

I just have a standard desk lamp from walmart. Make sure you use and energy efficient bulb, otherwise it will literally get burning hot(Really, I got burned once, it hurt lol)

Like most of these guys said, any lamp will work, just need a good bulb. The new bulbs out there are pretty good, and won't get hot like the old 60W bulbs of old.
