Hey dakka!
I just read a recent article about an ulthwe strike force supplement that is rumoured to come out eventually during 7th ed with a plastic warlock kit.
Anyone have any speculations or ideas on how they might represent some of the classic ulthwe stuff?

1) How to make a seer council on foot appealing?

Maybe a transport option? Something open topped that they could cast psychic powers from? Or maybe give eldrad some special rule that lets you take extra farseers or cheaper farseers, or let farseers roll on RoB?

2) How to represent black guardians?

As some may know they used to have bs4 in 3rd ed when normal guardians were bs3. I seriously doubt they'll be making black guardians bs5 so what are the other options? I was thinking maybe give their catapults actual rending? But then that isn't that fluffy because it should be the guardians themselves that are better than normal guardians, and not their weapons. Maybe letting them re-roll 1s to wound? The fluff could explain that since they are so experienced they are better targetting enemy weak points? What I would also like to see is letting a squad of black guardians take a heavy weapon for every 5 models in the unit rather than 10. Or maybe making a guardian 'exarch' that gets fast shot to fire the heavy weapon? I would also like my starcannons to be Heavy3 again :( but I think that would cause too many marine players to just quit the game.

Thoughts?

Catapults and 2CCW for black guardians would be nice.

so combining storm guardians and defender guardians into one model? Definitely interesting but I think they would be forced to up the points on that, and no one wants to pay more than 9-10 points for a guardian

Regarding number 2.

A while back somebody proposed rules for an Ulthwe supplement. While most would not be applicable, my suggestion for Black Guardians was as follows:

Black Storm Guardians - Storm Guardians gain the Furious Charge special rule.

Black Defender Guardians - Guardian Defenders re-roll failed To Hit rolls of 1 when firing. Note that this does not apply to any Warlocks or Independent Characters joined to the unit.

Originally Black Guardians had either +1 WS or +1 BS. Since this would make them better than Aspect Warriors, I think giving them a slight boost to their close combat and shooting is in order. I don't think that a re-roll To Hit of 1 is overly broken. Assuming 10 Guardians in range of a squad of Space Marines.

Before (BS3 -> BS4): 20 shots
BS3: 10 hits, 5 Wounds inflicted, 1.667 Wounds suffered.
BS4: 13.33 hits, 6.667 Wounds inflicted, 2.222 Wounds suffered.

An increase of .555 Wounds inflicted.

Now (BS4 -> re-roll 1's): 20 shots
BS4: 13.33 hits, 6.667 Wounds inflicted, 3.704 Wounds suffered (increase due to Pseudo-Rending)
Re-roll: 15.56 hits, 7.778 Wounds inflicted, 4.321 Wounds suffered.

An increase of .617. Note that the increase is higher solely due to Bladestorm. Without the rending-like ability, the re-roll inflicts 2.593 Wounds (0.371 increase).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
