So my Wolves are by far my least competitive faction. I generally just screw around with them and take anything. Anything at all. Everyone picks up SM models here and there, mine get painted Wolf colours and thrown into one big list.

Looking to turn it into at least one sensible army. At least to build towards. What does a competitive SW list look like in 7th? Which are the standout units in each FOC slot?

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

Are you asking about my meta? Or about competitive SW players because I have no idea and haven't been paying attention.

I quite like the Wolf flyer however. Would have no qualms finding a use for it spammed.

So it would seem like I'm not the only one incapable of recognising competitive SW models, the rest of dakka can't either.

Just hoping for a general outline of commonly played builds here.

I would suggest Thunderwolf Cavalry. I've been writing up all kinds of lists, and I always seem to want to include at least one unit of them. They look very competitive and can be equipped to take out high armour value, tough monstrous creatures, thunder hammer/storm shield terminators. Maybe stock they could deal with hoards... That i'm not sure.

My 2nd suggestion may not be competitive, but I love the model and what it can do. The venerable dreadnought with great axe and blizzard shield. a 3++ for its front facing, a strength 10, ap2 melee weapon, and for 145 points.

THX! Gonna grab some TWC.

I have two land speeders painted up, these worth bringing? If so what load out you guys use?

I like to use the models I have, but lately since my collection has grown, I can field different lists and exchange or add models in my collection to lists. Two land speeders aren't bad imo, and one could argue they belong in a competitive list, but it can also be argued that other stuff belong in a competitive list rather than land speeders.

If the land speeders are equipped with multi-meltas, that is some good anit-armour right there, and you could still take one unit of TWC. Or you could give them heavy flamers for some anti-hoard. So I guess if it was up to me, to compliment the TWC ( which would be kitted out for anti- armour/monstrous creature/ so on ) I would use the land speeders to either take out tanks, or hoards. So its a toss up between melta or h. flamer.

Interested to know your what direction your thinking of going as well.

Both the speeders have Multi-Meltas.

I like the idea of TWC,

I'm sort of open to anything at this point, as said I need a little direction

Yeah it sounds like you'll have all your Fast Attack slots filled out, or just 2 slots if you take 2 land speeders as one unit. I would make the TWC unit to 6 models and maybe at least 3 of them have storm shields, if not all of them. They become much harder to instant kill via strength 10 shooting ( doubling the toughness ) with a 3++ save.

I would seriously consider the new flyer for space wolves as well. I'll be getting one and I hear they are a beast.

Rune Priests, Grey Hunters, Long Fangs are some of the best units in the game and you are missing out if you don't have these guys in your lists.

Fun units are TWC and Lone Wolves and the SW HQs

Sounds like bread and butter material right there. I am not a fan of infantry based units too much, and I have a hard time including them, especially if I try to make a semi competitive list. I would have to say though, I think the TWC should be considered competitive. It's impressive what they can do, move fast, hit hard, take a high strength shot, and have a wide choice of targets to go after with decent success.

Really, SW have great internal balance so more than half of the codex could certainly be considered "viable". I've got a 1500pt tournament at the end of the month, and here's my list:

HQ
Rune Priest (ML2, Psychic Hood)
Rune Priest (ML2, Psychic Hood)

TROOPS
5x GH (Meltagun, Rhino)
5x GH (Meltagun, Rhino)
5x GH (Meltagun, Rhino)
5x GH (Plasmagun, Rhino)
5x GH (Plasmagun, Rhino)

FAST ATTACK
3x TWC (WC/SS, TH/SS, CCW/SS)
3x TWC (PF/BP, 2x CCW/SS)
5x Skyclaws (2x Meltaguns)

HEAVY SUPPORT
Vindicator (SB)

I agree Long Fangs are great always will be. A strong Long Fangs squad can knock out 2 rhino equivalents a turn. If a big nasty is one the table they usually destroy it. As a staple to all my lists I count on that unit to take care of my backfield, long-range firepower. Other Heavy units in my lists maneuver with the Rhinos and make a move.

Bread and Butter feeds an army, I like the basic units in the SW codex but thats my style. Rhinos with Independent characters, tanks, physics, land speeders are what I'm into.

I agree TWC are competitive when used as flank support units to a advancing Rhino shock tactic, backfield protection, or as a tarpit. They make excellent back field protection vs. Deep Strikers.Their assaulting and moving through cover maneuverability can not be questioned. Opponents notice their presence on the battlefield and will sometimes throw a lot of firepower to bring them down, taking fire away from your other units.

If I used them I would go 120 points vanilla squad +15 points for melta bombs to contest tanks and walkers. Plus many of the new codex offers other bonuses to Calvary and Beasts so an effective build for new tournament lists is available.

The only thing I watch out for is heavy bolters or Assault cannon equivalents shooting at them. (which is why I field lots of heavy bolters and heavy flamers
