I'm open to any ideas, I really just don't want to pay $40 for two models. I've seen some cool conversions for regular spawn, but how about nurgle?

Nurgle would probably be the easiest one to do. Just take some GS, give it a slug shape, maybe add some boils, distress some parts, add a couple of bits (skulls, arms, w/e), done.

$30 for a huge bag of conversion parts particularly well suited to Chaos and Imperial Guard. You also get 50 custom "generic sci fi" bases. I cannot recommend purchasing it strongly enough, provided you enjoy building your own stuff. There is literally an entire bag of necrotic cyborg space zombies...which would be awesome for anything having to do with Nurgle.

My advice would be to throw the box, rules, and cards into the garbage and regard it as a bulk bits purchase.

If you don't want to fiddle with making your own, Reaper Bones has a couple decent spawn substitutes. Here's a few I painted up:

They're all 3-6 bucks. Check the Reaper.com site for all the rest of their stuff, it's got a pretty good search function for finding particular monsters.

What is the scale size of the horrors?

Think it is about 1 1/2" tall x 2" across the widest section of the base. They do smaller "blabbering horrors" too - which are around 3/4" x 3/4".

Their Ghoul King and Cadwalon are also impressively obese figures - Swine prince too...though his pose isn't the most useful.

Once Bones II are done shipping, you will be able to pick up the Lemures through retail.

Bit like nurglings...all grown up. Being Bones, they will be inexpensive to use as well.

I've been thinking about this lately as well. I was planning on buying a box of plastic river trolls and adding a lot of Green Stuff details. I also have a ton of bits left over from all the Chaos Spawn I assembled, so I will be using those as well. I have one Beast of Nurgle in metal and after looking at it I don't think it would be that hard to sculpt a version similar in aesthetic to it - it really is just a mess of a design lol. Which works for Nurgle.

ebob minatures has giant spiders on 40mm bases, they're about 20 USD for 3 of em. I'm planning on getting stuff, and with a little green stuff making "plague spiders"

Reaper mini's Bones catalog. Wow, yeah they are cheap and there are some solid models in there for conversion or whatnot. Actually used one of their giant spiders in a recent project myself.

Just realize that bones is different from your standard GW hard plastics Well.. so is the 'restic' that sedition wars is made of... but for the price bones are generally pretty sweet, and just the strain part of SW is probably worth the cost. Not to mention cool bases and not-guardsmen to torment or sell

I think for spawn starting with all of the bits for a human model, armor or not, and then going to town with greenstuff and other gribbly bits is the way to go Slugs, bugs, horrible blobs, just make them nasty and slimy as possible
