Are Centstars actually used widely in games? Do SM players regard using them as a strong tactic?

I was watching a game last night where the Space Marine player brought 6 Centurions and a Librarian in Terminator armor. It fell quickly to shots from Obliterators and a Conversion beamer.

This was the first time I saw anyone playing Centurions, and thought they were a lot tougher than that. Are Centurions really just souped up Terminators with bigger guns?

They have 2 wounds and 2+ Sv but no invuln save. So they're very susceptible to AP2 and AP1.

My best use is to field them in a large enough vehicle or hope you get gate of infinity and invisibility.

They're almost unstoppable then

I think people go for the bikestar, if they're inclined to take a Deathstar these days. Moving quickly and the fact that you can nearly put out the same amount of grav shots for the points they're the smarter choice. 6 seems like overkill to me, too much of a point sink for what's going to be a priority target.

But if they are invisible, who cares?

Did he cast invisibility/shrouding (telepathy) on the centstar?

Sort of. Grav-cannons is exclusive to Centurions.

They are a half decent unit. Until you take them with Tigurius and/or Loth and then they are one of the best units in the game.

I run em with a chapter master and the forgeworld apothecary granting the entire unit feel no pain. Lot harder to kill than terminators.
