Over on Bolter and Chainsword a thread was circulating about the future fate of Necrons. Most of the contributors were giddy for, and predicting, the major dismantling of all that is good with the current necrons. I take an opposite approach being a pretty big Necron fan. Now, I do admit some things are under priced and a few rules are perhaps too good. Regardless I'm copying and pasting a tidbit of one persons recommendations along with my reply, I'd like to see the conversation picked up here on dakka.

Necrons need major nerfs. Glancing any vehicle on 6 is insane. That rule was invented BEFORE vehicles had limited hullpoints.
Also, 90 points for av13 skimmers with jink and tl str7 tesla weapons is plain silly.
The flyers need to cost around 160+ and Tesla rule shouldn't work when snap firing.
Ishagu needs to get a stiff drink and go sit in a corner for a few minutes, seriously man, calm down. Your suggested nerfs are absolutely ludicrous and would gut the entire playability of the army on a competitive level. Look at what they did to Dark Angels and Tyranids, they aren't played competitively at all, the only people who do play them are people who have invested heavily in the models and just like them. Why would us Necron players who play the game for competitive results welcome that fate, or agree with your suggested shalacking of our competitive elements? Look at current Eldar, Tau, AM, and Wolves even - with your suggested nerfs do you think Necron could ever stand up to any of them? Of course not.
Now in the spirit of fairness I will admit a few things are very underpriced, and a few rules are too good. Here are my suggestions for making the army less powerful in areas while still giving them hope of beating Eldar or Tau at a NOVA level event:
Bring both the Annihilation Barge and Night Scythe up to 125 points base with some competitive add-on for 10 points where the most common configuration will clock in at 135 points. A kitted out Wave Serpent is 145 points and is IMO vastly better than a Night Scythe in every way, wanting Night Scythes to be 160 base is you smoking crack.
With that said, remove the disembark/embark shenanigans completely from the Night Scythe, having it function as a normal flyer transport, transport capacity should remain the same and without restriction.
Making MSS role 2D6 = just remove it completely it's now useless. Leave it as is and make it a 50 point add-on, at that point cost it will represent a serious tax on list building and completely remove it's current auto-include status.
I think reanimation protocols are integral to the fluff, and furthermore are incongruous with the other competitive elements of the army, IE Night Scythes. If you're running a lot of Night Scythes your going MSU and reanimation will hardly come into play. If you're playing foot-slogging blobs you wont be running many Night Scythes, if any, so just dealing with reanimation by it self isn't overpowered at all.
Make Tesla +1 hit rather than +2, that is all, by halving it you remove the absurd snap fire statistics.
Gauss special rule must remain intact for this simple reason, Necrons are a 24" army with VERY little Str 8/9/10, by removing Gauss special rule you would literally force every Necron player to play the 2-3 grossly overcosted units that could reliably glance/pen AV 13+ and have the range to shoot at said armor. With the advent of super heavies being played regularly scarabs value has plummeted also. In the ultra mechanized world of 7th Gauss must stay.
Deathmarks with Hunters from Hyperspace are fine rules wise and points wise, the only broken combo is with the abyssal staff of the despairteks, move the abyssal staff to a one only piece of wargear under a different name and give the despairtek a different stat/rule line to the "new" abyssal staff.
I think those are the only areas that need nerfing, now with that said, MANY things needs buffs/point reductions, I wont go into all that now, but I think we're all aware that at least 50% of the current dex is near unplayable at a competitive level.
Let the rage ensue!
