Hey everyone,

So are these guys any good?  I've seen them at the top of several lists of "power" armies.  I'd be interested in seeing what people run, and how they tweak these guys, aside from the seiren princes.   Here are a couple of my thoughts:

Assaulty: MoS + inf or FC with nasty aspiring champions, BP/CCW and a mass of demonette cav.

Shooty: Mass of sonic blasters + mass of tank hunting blastmasters + countercharge element (demonettes) + infiltrate

Is there a happy medium that people have come up with?  Either of the two above have potential; what do you all think?

cheers

I've always admired emp. children. Their weapondry is some of the best in the game IMHO and the flavor of the whole army is just fun, which ultimantly is why you should be playing anything.

As far as "power" army goes I don't know. I tend to believe that the more an army is viewed as "power" the easier it is to beat. But in either case I'll get to answering your question.

The strength of this army is (IMHO) the slow march => assault. Basically use the flexibility of your weapons to let you march foward pressing into the enemy poising yourself for a strike.

Think something like the british troops leapfrogging for a round or two before charging full out.

Some things to watch out for with Emp. children:

Go light on commanders, its very very easy to tool these guys out to max and end up with 17 points to spend on the rest of the army. Your squad size gets to be small (6/7?) to get that free champion and go right on ahead and give them a nice CC weapon. You're advantage will be multiple hits along a weaken'd enemy line with numerous strong but not overpowering units.

Ok, so here's what I'm thinking:

HQ
Demon Prince-speed, stature, doom siren, MOS, dark blade, FC, spikey bits, aura, essence, mutation/200

TROOPS
1) 6 Noise Marines-champion with power weapon, 5 sonic blasters, icon/149

2) 6 Noise Marines-champion with power weapon, 5 sonic blasters, icon/149

3) 6 Noise Marines-champion with power weapon, 5 sonic blasters, icon/149

4) 6 Noise Marines-champion with power weapon, 5 sonic blasters, icon/149

5) 6 Noise Marines-champion with power weapon, 5 sonic blasters, icon/149

FAST ATTACK

1) 6 Mounted Demonettes/168

2) 6 Mounted Demonettes/168

HEAVY SUPPORT

1) 6 Havocs-3 blastmasters, tank hunters/192

2) 6 Havocs-3 blastmasters, tank hunters/192

3) 6 Havocs-3 blastmasters, tank hunters/192

1857 points

So, it's seven points over, ideas for trimming that? The seiren off of the DP?

Another option is to cut either one of the havocs or one of the demonettes and give all of the noise maines (not havocs) infiltrate, which could be fun.

Thoughts?

cheers

Maybe have 1 of your squads drop their sonic blasters giving you 25 points and then you could give that squad some vet skills or something to cover the remaining 18 points, say furious charge, and then the rest of the squad bolter+cc weapon and have the squad running up as quickly as possible.  You'd still have 4 squads as a fire base and your remaining 5th could run interference to any heavy assault units that might try'n charge straight at you.

More Daemonettes.

Experiment with infiltrating Havocs and daemonettes.

I guess I should have noted when I gave you advice that I'm kinda anti-demon. But thats just my own personal preference, that isn't an argument against demons or saying that they're not any good, I just don't use them. So taking nike's advice is totally cool too.

How it should break down in the end thou is how do you like to play? Are you an assault guy who likes to get in and mix it up, or do you like to blast an opponents ears off, combo of the both?

Side note, never thought about infiltrating havoc's neat idea.

I would combine 2 of your troops into one 12 man squad - by dropping one of those champions - you'll get under the point limitation as well as have a solid unit of 12 which is fluffy and resilient. Youll have some points to spare then. Id also drop one unit of mounted demons an field one unit of 12 regular demons. If you have to combine another 2 6man squads Id do it - demonettes rock. Your anti-tank will be taken on by your havocs. Anti horde shooting will be given to your tactical squads - having 2 large units of 12 will allow you to really saturate those hordes and absorb return fire while you advance. Maybe give the last 6man squad a blastmaster for versatility.  Your Havocs are perfect. Personally - Id want to put Combat Drugs on the Prince - its too fluffy not to.

A man's character is his fate.
