This may seem a bit wierd but as we can take come the apocalypse allies I am thinking it might be worth taking a small Tyranid Allied detachment purely for Shadows.
The local META I play in is quite heavy on Psykers including Seer Council etc.
I figure that having a Haemo deep striking and a Hive Tyrant coming in from reserves would make a bit of a mess of Psykers via Shadows in the Warp and Crucible of Malediction.
This would work on practically everything, Seer Council, Demons etc.
Viable option? (Assuming Crucible is in the new Codex)
Or am I just being stupid!?!

Shadows would be great if it did something to deny psychic powers, as it happens, it doesn't. I don't recommend using Nids as anything but a primary detachment ever as you severely restrict yourself on what units you can take, due to having to think about Synapse and being Come the Apocalypse (especially important for DE, as it restricts your movement).
If you're taking allies for DE, I don't see why you wouldn't provide them with Battle Brothers Eldar, who can do more for you in the Psychic Phase by providing additional Warp Charges.

Well I could take Eldar allies... This all depends on if the power is removed from the new codex anyway. In theory though, with Shadows affecting say a Seer Council the Warlocks would be taking test on LD5 and the Farseers on LD7. You are pretty much guaranteed to wipe out the majority of the unit very easily and really for not much in the way of points...

Well if you rolled Psychic Scream...and succeed in casting...and don't have it denied...and roll high enough to cause damage

Who said anything about Psychic Scream? He's talking about Crucible of Malediction.
I see no reason this wouldn't work. Alan Bajramovic pulled something similar with SitW and the Doomstone (a Daemon artifact that forces LD tests) to great effect at the Indy Open GT this past weekend. Here's hoping Crucible makes the cut in the new book.

Torment Grenande Launchers on Raiders could help too..my only concern would be that it is one use only and doesn't have a set range, so you could fluff it, or hit your Psykers (but with Ld10 on the Flyrant, shouldn't be too much of a problem)

This is a great tactic, I've done it except the other way around, (small DE detachment for my Nids) and it DESTROYS Psykers. Make sure you go for -1 LD bubble upgrade on the Raider that the Haemy is deepstriking with, -4 LD bubble to Psykers. Playing Nids as the primary lets you take a second HQ (Deathleaper) or even the Deathleaper Assassin Brood formation, making it pretty eas to get -8 LD on say a Tiggy. Pretty hilarious combo all up, it will probably be worth the points more games then not if you just take the Flyrant + DS Raider combo, still pretty TAC because at the end of the day even if you get matched up against a Psykerless army you've barely wasted any points, I mean you took a Flyrant and a Haemonculus in a Raider, both very common picks and good units for both armys, I mean you might not get full returns out of 30 pts or whatever for DS+Crucible upgrades, meh the games that it auto-wins you will make up for these lol.

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it. |
