Alright master painters! I am on a quest to find the best color to match Vallejos' Burnt Cad Red 70.814. It contains Cadmium and I don't want to spray it.

Cheers!

You do know the Cadmium in it is so minute it is fairly harmless. Besides you should be wearing a paint respirator with ANY pain you spray.

I'm not convinced that Vallejo burnt cadmium red actually does in fact have cadmium in it.

It is labeled as being non-toxic, so maybe they just call it that because it is a color that has the same value as a cadmium based paint of the same color.

Just a thought.

OTOH I doubt that I would drink it in mass quantities, but I wouldn't really be too hesitant about running it through an airbrush unless there were a big label on it that said DANGER: Contains heavy metals.

I doubt that it would be for sale in this country (Murica) if it did.

Does this product cause cancer in California?

Likely will run into issues trying to find a good match that doesn't contain cadmium...

...they don't use it for giggles - it is because that is the pigment that works.

If you look in the Vallejo chart...no real paint line matches for it (FSC, RAL and what not are tones - not specific paints). The nearest matches on the Delta E database will put it with other stuff that...also contains cadmium. You might be able to mix to get close...but, it isn't going to be easy as it is a somewhat unique shade.

A good quality naphthol red with a bit of burnt umber should get you there. Coverage won't be as good - and the red tone isn't quite as strong as the cadmium red base color. One of the fine art airbrush paint lines will have both (Golden High Flow, ComArt, Grex Private Stock...).

It does have cadmium - if you go to their FAQ for paints...it will be listed there IIRC.

Granted, Sammoth makes the more poignant point. The amount in a full bottle is less than what you get exposed to just walking around. It is in the air, in the dirt, in our water and in our food. Cadmium isn't a good thing to mess around with...if you worked in something like a smelting factory refining cadmium (or other metals that have high concentrations of cadmium) - but the minute exposure from airbrushing is negligible. Proper occupational safety almost eliminates all exposure that may occur as well.

Vallejo's german red-brown PU primer is an almost exact colour match, if it's just a solid colour you're putting down.

It's the base colour on these:

I been spraying Vallejo model color for years and have had no issues. Because I wear a paint regulated respirator. I even spray pledge floor care for gloss seal on most of my models. The websites people listed above might give you a match in color.
YES the German primer they mAtch to the ww2 tanks should be close its a reddish brown.
