Subject: Can You Help Me With Legality Of Allies (Imperium Of Man),

Hey Everyone,
So my gaming group is taking off, and we just had a 12000 point per side Apoc game that was a marathon of love yesterday. We have some great painters, and some life long hobbyists in the group, and we have some amazing gamers. I'm a very out of practice gamer, but I'm good, but rules have never been my strong part. I get bored reading that damn rule book.
Anyway because all of our games have been huge, we're going small scale with 1850 tournament legal lists one on one for the our next meeting.
Someone in the group mentioned that a Tournament army can only be legal with two detachments max.
The army I have been laboring away at is a Marine/Inquisition force and I have a Knight Titan in the mix too. So this would be three Detachments. In the rules it states you can have as many Detachments as you wish as long as you have a primary!?
So can someone explain to me in a 40k For Dummies kind of way how Detachments and Allies work and how I can make this army fit into a typical tournament legal list?
Thanks in advance.

It depends on the rules for the tournament.
Best to ask the TO (tournament organizer) for the rules on lists.

There are no offical "warhammer 40k tournment rules" so basicly every tourny has it's own rules.

Alright,
So then let's back out of looking at this from a Tournament perspective.
As far as I can tell a list containing Marines as the Primary with a Detachment from =I=, and a Knight as a third Detachment is "in the spirit" of the game?
Am I correct? It is legal right??? Is it in good spirits?

This is not an official rule published by GW. In standard 40k games you can have any number of detachments, or even no detachments at all (unbound). The "two detachments max" is a house rule that some, but not all (or even most), tournaments use. Your local group might decide to impose this rule, but it's far from universal.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |
