Hello all,

I am playing around with an idea for not just a list but some fluff as well. I an consdering taking an imperial guard and Allied space marine list. It would look something like this:

IG (about 1000 pts)
Pask/Punisher with Executioner

2x Melta Vets in Chimeras

2x Vanquishers

2x Wyverns

Space Marines ( about 500pts)
Space Marine Captian
2x Tactical Squads (4 man) with missile launcher and drop pods

The problem I have read about with Guard is that they have no later game means to grab and hold points. I was thinking these drop pod marines could do this, but I dont know marines that well. First of all is the idea even any good or just flawed from the get go. Also would one pod be better with a full squad and whose chapter tactics would be best. The allotted points and configurations are loose and I am looking mainly for help on the space marine side.

Thank you guys for all the help.

From how you named it, i thought you wanted to put guards in a drop pod. With space wolf allies it's possible and probably somewhat viable to deliver vets with 3 relatively cheap meltas/plasmas/flamers to where you need them the most.

But if you just want space marine in pods allies, it works best the opposite way cause that's how you get obsec drop pods. You usually don't need obsec at the backfield.

I wouldn't put heavy weapons like an ML in a pod as they will only be able to snap fire the turn they land.
