Ok so my understanidng of these concepts is really foggy. Is there a difference between combined arms and allied detachments? If so what are they?

My main reason for asking is that I I was thinking of including an iyanden attachment in my regular eldar army. Would I need to do a combined arms detachment to make this possible? (like 1 hq + 2 troops for both regular and iyanden?) Or is it not possible at all? Also their psychic powers can target each other right?

Iyanden and normal Eldar are of the same faction. The Allied Detachment in the rulebook states it has to be of a different faction of your primary army. So you would need double CAD on this one. RAW, you could technically run both within a single CAD but some places are ruling against this despite them being of the same faction.

Since they are the same faction, they are considered battlebrothers for the purposes of ICs and Psychic Blessings.

ok thanks that makes it really clear!

Just to be sure this is a legal army?

Attachment1
Farseer
Avatar
guardians
direavengers
+ some other stuff (up to 3 FA, Elite and Heavy Support)

Attachment2
spiritseer
wraithguard
jetbikes
+ some other stuff (up to 3 FA, Elite and Heavy Support)

And this is something I can always do? Like it's not one of those "clear with your opponent first" type things?

Absolutely legal.

Also legal as a single army:
CAD1 - Farseer, dire avenger squad, Jetbike squad.
CAD2 - Space marine captain, tactical squad, scout squad.
CAD3 - Cadre Fireblade, 2x Firewarrior squad.

You can take any number of CAD's or other detachments / formations in a Battle-Forged army.
