Seeing the popularity of shooty units backed up by psykers that usually function with gate of infinity and invisibility I was wondering if the eldar couldnt do something similar, and if in the end it would be even worth it.

So instead of centurions+tig or paladins+draigo do you think there would be any value in trying to run 10x wraithguard with farseers/spiritseers(shadow council)?

You could run it either super expensive (eldrad+a few spiritseers) or bargain (farseer+ at least 2 spiritseers). All of the psykers can roll on both telepathy and demonology and even the cheapest version I would consider would have at least 7 rolls on those tables. (also, d-scythes or cannons?)

The biggest drawback I could see is that while 10 strength 10 ap 2 guns is nothing to sneeze at it doesnt have the same amount of stopping power as the centurions. You also really have to get gate of infinity for it to work to its full potential, although the same can be said of centstars.

So what do you think? I'm considering trying this out next game just wondering what everyone's opinion of its viability is.

There's not a real need to do this, since Wraithguard have access to a very durable, mobile transport in the form of the Wave Serpent. Follow behind it with a farseer on a jetbike, and you don't have to go through the whole rigamaroll of trying to fish for Gate of Infinity, and then be suffering from awful perils rolls every other time you try to cast it.

I totally get that guard in serpents are in general the way to go, its how I've been running them.

But there are some solid advantages to the star that I was hoping to hear opinions on.

Including:

Gate means they can be where you want them. Serpents are great, no argument, but deepstriking opens up a whole level of deployment and attack options that serpents dont add.

They are active turn 1. Again as long as they're in the serpents they're not shooting and getting a serpent as close as guard need them to be also puts the serpent in danger.

Alphastrike capabilities.

Also to note hopefully the risks of perils on demonology can be mitigated by runes of witnessing/and the spiritstone of anathlan, just as an aside.

Fundamental difference between centurions gating and wraithguard gating: 24" range vs 12" range. You still scatter when you deep strike... Very easy to land with your weapons out of range or misshap if you risk a closer move.

With axe and shield Daemonology offers some fun options. S9 melee? 3++? GoI? Those are solid, especially cast off a Farseer for some Ghost Helm protection.

Do you mean Sanctic...? Well, there's a problem with Perils but it can work I suppose. Do Spiritseers have the Ghosthelm or whatever the feth it's called?

With Iyanden, 2-3 Spiritseers and 10x Wraithguard become a valid option that can work as the anchor of your army, take ground in the midfield and scare off/punish enemy deathstars.

I ran this list in early 7th as fun. Calling it WraithGate, I had success with it.

I usually ran two Serpents, a wraithknight, and baron + warriors with it, to give the guard a combat punch. 5 Spiritseers with Eldrad make short work of a lot of combat threats.

You can run without baron, as gate can get you out of combat if you really need to, allowing you to nab Voice of Twilight with one of the spiritseers, mitigating the 12" range of the guard for battle focus.

Again, the largest problem is scattering, which is why I would fish for the No Scatter Deepstrike within 6" of the warlord from the wraithknight.

I found that most of the time, the wraithguard would only need to use gate one or twice a game. After that, they would be able to shoot or get into combat with whatever, usually decimating the rest of the army and creating a large zone of denial.

voice of twilight helps with the deepstrike problem. Allowing you to make a run move afterwards. If you have 5 spiritseers chances are that you will get quicken as well. So deepstriking plus a 4-9" run move should get them to where they want to go.Especially if you start the deep strike placement with your seers, then you'll get some wraithguard a few inches away from the deepstrike 'point' towards your target as well.
