It's a long shot, but does anyone play Pike and Shotte in 15mm? If so how do you base your cannons?

I'm using the standard basing method for infantry and cavalry (20mm x 20mm and 25mm x 50mm) but doubling number of models on a base and doubling the the width of bases for convenience. So infantry bases are 40mm x 20mm with four models on them and cavalry are 50mm x 50mm also with four models on a base.

Cannons are problematic though, It appears that when the game is played with 28mm figures cannons are supposed to go on a 60mm wide base that is as long as required by the model. I can do one of the following (problems in parenthesis):

  • One cannon on a 30mm wide base. (this may give cannon some unexpected bonus).
  • Two cannons on a 60mm wide base counting as a single cannon in game (it will look like I have many more cannons than I actually have or that were used historically).
  • One cannon on a 60mm wide base. (The base utterly dwarves the cannon).

I would go with either 2 or 3.

You can use the extra space for option 3 to really make it something spend a lot of time on the baising

I've just joined to respond. Yes, my local group plays P and S with 15mm. WE base 6 x close order or 3 skirmish order infantry or 2 cavalry on 30mm square bases. Artillery is 30mm square for light pieces, 30mm x 60mm for medium or heavy. As we play ECW, there are very few of the last group. This seems to work. We also measure moves and ranges in inches, as this works well on large tables.

Hmm, my brother has a bunch of P&S in 15mm. I'll check his basing and rules.

    edit: he says:

"basing is 25mmx50mm metal bases, and at this point I've only used modified Mighty Armies Ancients."
"there's also Field of Glory Renaissance but its too complex for what I want. There's also DBR, that uses different sized bases, based on the DBA/DBMM rules"

Thanks all, especially Andrew C for joining up to post. 30mm+ seems to be the way to go. I can always upbase as a scenic thing as desired to give the army some presence.

What do you all play? I'm going for early Parliamentarians and my friend is doing New model army so we'll end up re-enacting some sort of crushing of the levellers/ranters/diggers until we acquire a royalist. to play against.
