Subject: 'Generic' fleet upgrades for beginners?

I bought the starter set and really like it and would like to buy another so my brother and I can build fleets together. One question, though: I am still new and kind of foggy on how useful some upgrades are. What is the most generic build for rebels and imperials that we can jump into with? does a tie horde just not upgrade non-character pilots to save points for more models? What is a surefire way to upgrade rebel x wings without overthinking it?

I went to Hershey Park in central PA this year, and I have to say I was more than a little disappointed. I fully expected the entire theme park to be make entirely of chocolate, but no. Here in America, we have "building codes," and some other nonsense about chocolate melting if don't store it someplace kept below room temperature. |

Howlrunner and possibly one other named Tie generally show up in the swarm, otherwise it's just a bunch of generics (4 Obsidians + 4 Academy Pilots is 100 points). That means a total of 4 starters, or possibly 3 and one blister.
On the Rebellion side of things, you can do XXBB, or some variation. If you're going with multiple starters to build up the Ties, you could even do a 4X build with 2 Rookies, Luke with R2D2, and Biggs.

Tie fighters aren't the best to use just low count models with and favor either swarm (see dereks post) or filling out the gapes for other ships (Vader + TIES for instance, or TIES + interceptors). The imperials work a lot more on syngergy than the rebel "heroes"

GENERATION 9: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment. |

100 points rebel that my daughter ran to good success at a local tournament. she placed 8th out of twelve, and had to leave after the second round due to a baby sitting job. Without further delay, here was the list:
Luke Skywalker: R2-D2, Expert Handling, Shield upgrade
Wedge Antillees: R2 astromech, Predator, Shield upgrade
Biggs Darklighter
Luke w/ R2 is great. Just cant say how much firepower you need to dedicate to take him down in a turn. She always kept Biggs clese to Luke, so, had to target him first. For a 13 year old, she plays this game well.
3 models is good to learn with. I would say get use to just manuvering through the game. The rest just comes through playing as much as you can.

Don't overthink it.
Buy what sounds cool, play, and buy new things after several games.
