I have my Space Hulk! (okay, actually 4 copies of it). The models are very good -- though the librarian on the box I opened was broken off the sprue (not in a way that damages it, though).
I didn't take a photo of it, but the genestealer sprues are some of my favorite poses of stealers, and you get a lot of them! The two pics below are uploaded at full JPG resolution from a Canon T2i (18 MP or w/e), so if you click on them, you can see each of the models in crisp detail.

Looks like the models stayed the same from previous versions. Not that I mind, I like them.

I own the previous release, and have two on the way from this one. Have not yet decided whether to sell or keep.

Yeah, same, I bought a couple extra in case I wanted to keep; and it will be easy enough to sell if I decide against it. One of our local stores only got 4 units in.

Yup, identical to the last release, I think. One of my favorite "features" about the Space Hulk minis is that the mold lines are barely noticeable, and all in reasonable places to clean up. There are also almost no "dumb" sculpting/casting decisions like Dark Vengeance, where some pieces in highly visible places (like shoulders) need significant remediation. Why can't they do this with all models....

actually, there are a few shoulder joints where i was disappointed with the moulding decisions in 2009, and a few spots on the 'Stealers that really need to be carved out, too...
it just goes to show that there is still a little ways to go until the push-fit models are perfect, but 5 years ago, this was the best thing GW had done to date with push-fit...
i found the DA in DV to be about on par with the Space Hulk Termies, except that they went a bit further with how many pieces to cut the push-fit characters into, thus making them one small step beyond even the detail in this set...
there is a Tactical Marine or two in the DV set that have an annoying spot in the mold, like the beakie head looking sideways...
say what you will about GW, but they do push the boundaries of their past work with each new set they release...
i like being able to track the evolution of plastics through the GW kits, even if they aren't on the same level as the top plastic kits in the modeling world...
cheers

I love how they start out colored. And my termies were super easy to assemble

For the guy who leaves it all on the field (because he doesn't pick up after the game).

Of the 9 DV space marines (not including the sergeant), the bottom edge of every right shoulder has to be fixed to give it a crisp line (some are not as bad as others). The front/bottom edge of the shoulder pad is always messed up. The terminators are much better, for sure, especially the chainsaw, assault cannon and sergeant models. The two powerfist/bolter termies have a messed up crux terminates on their left shoulder (the bottom part of the cross), which pisses me off, because there's just no reason for that.
Sadly, I am not a Chaos fan (either to paint or play), so I haven't bought multiple DV sets.
But yes, the SH terminators are very similar to the DV ones in both assembly and quality, though personally, I think the SH blood angels have more detail on the average unit -- for example, on the bolters, fists, shoulders, etc. I also love the variety of weapons, and poses, plus the standout feature models.

i'm not saying they are bad, just that they are not perfect...
both box sets have a few disappointing aspects of the mould cuts, showing the limitations of the process...
they also show how GW has pushed their limits since AoBR, which is a good thing...
i agree that the detail on the BA Termies in SH are beautiful...
i was very happy when i opened the box in 2009...
at the same time, i was let down a little by the few flaws in the minis...
the good outweighs the bad...
i felt the same way when i opened my DV box...
where i think they pushed their technology a little further this time around, with the DV set, was in the way that they cut the Captain and Librarian for the power armored guys...
the design is very ingenious, how thay cut the sculpts with robes for the moulds....
oddly enough, i was a little let down by the LE Chaplain in comparison to the Libby and Captain...
i like both sets, and as i said, i love seeing the evolution of the design capabilities...
GW has come a long way since the first box of plastic Fantasy Regiments and Beakies, back in the late 80's...
cheers

From what I've read the added missions and some updated game pieces are the only difference.
My guess is the rules are the same then?

A question that I feel must be asked.
Does the SH models need to be primed like regular ones, or is that red/blue paint they got functioning as a prime already?
|
can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now. |

If it's like every other coloured plastic model I've bought, it's not red paint, it's red plastic. So no, you still have to prime.
