So, i'm new to fantasy so before I go and buy/paint anything I would like to know what a good, competitive 1000pts of WOC would be.

I have a couple of requirements though:

Must be only Khorne Forces
Must include the Hellcannon (I want to be able to withstand Dwarven bombardments and return fire accordingly)
Must be able to stand up to Cheese (one of my best friends at my LWGS sees more cheese than a babybell worker)
Must have Some knights ( i think the models are bad ass)

Other than that I would like to hear your opinions!

Well looking at your requirements it will be hard to be competitive but your khorne only list is easy and wont require many models. You have a great named character in scayla because he is cheaper then an exalted hero and LD 10!!!

Knights will either be a small unit of 5 or it will take up half of your list.

a helcannon will be able to fit but will take up all of your rare points that if you want it to be a stronger list you will need those points for khorne skullcrushers.

I would consider 2 units of marauder horsemen and a unit of hounds, unit of 5 knights, 3 skullcrushers, and scayla.

Wow! Well, the list needs to be cheap (money wise) and i'm still a novice painter so scayla will be WAAAAAY outtta my league. If The hellcannon's bothering you it's fine to leave it out.

It doesnt bother me im just saying that you will have a stronger list going with skullcrushers over a cannon. and the list i wrote at full retail will be just about $200. another option besides the marauders would be khorne chariots

By massive prices do you mean the $$ value or the points value?

Also why do you require it to be khorne? The marks don't really make the army look any different unless you paint it that way.

Scyla's easy to paint. Paint basecoat red. Mix 50:50 layer red and base red. Highlight layer red. Glaze red. Paint fur Mournfang brown. Highlight a 70:30 mix of mournfang brown and pallid wych flesh. Paint bronze parts warplock brass/bronze. Wash Agrax Earthshade. Glaze the skin red. The hellcannon is much more difficult. It's got a tonne of detail, and it's failcast.

And yes, those proportions can be played by eye.


BUT, if he's out of the question, Get the chaos lord on foot. Paint the armour white, glaze it red. Paint flesh bugman's glow, highlight elf flesh. Paint metallics. Done.

18 warriors of khorne with AHW. Spray white, glaze armour red. Wash cloaks agrax.

5 Knights of khorne with ensorcelled weapons. Same painting method of the armour. And paint the horse flesh black.

3 Crushers. Same painting method as the lord.


It's a cheap army, by WHFB standards, not sure of the points, but all the units bar the big core block is just a single box.

Just because you are going khorne fluff doesn't mean you have to play them as khorne every time. Even if you paint them up red and black like khorne no one will mind if you decide to go with nurgle or tzeentch etc.

Also if you worried about spending money on an army (that list above was $200 us) then your in the wrong hobby.

Just go buy the army book and start there and figure out what you wanna do army wise

Haha! I've spent well over £250 on starting the hobby, and i still haven't picked up Khorne paints so I don't mean super cheap, just anything under 120 for a starting army will do.

Some brief things:

I want quite a few medium sized blocks of warriors (with shields and swords).

Also, I apologize if i offended anyone, and the tiny bit of fluff that i have says that Brekka completely shuns all non-khorne warriors (but is happy to use skaven and dark elf allies)

Well if you are looking at around 120 pounds then I would go with the battalion box, a hero, a sorcerer, the hell cannon (since you want that) and I would buy another battalion box.
That gives you:
24 warriors
10 knights
10 hounds
40 mauraders (I'm not a big fan of them personally)
Sorcerer
Hero
Hell cannon

Retail cost would be 185ish if you buy it at full retail but you can get everything except the hell cannon from discounters at around 20% off.

You might want to consider getting some skullcrushers.
That gives you more than enough stuff to build a 1500+ list I believe

Why do marauders get so much hate? Also, wouldn't be cheaper to buy less marauders, less hounds, and get a chaos lord, marauder cavalry and more warriors?

Marauders were bent in the old book.Now they're reasonably costed.

As for the batallion, it depends on what you want to use. The hobby is really expensive, and the stuff I gave you makes for a simple, effective army. You're going to need that stuff anyway to make a Khprne army work, so you might as well get it out of the way. Plus, much nicer models!

Either way. They're good bargains. As I did say, I gave you a cheap army, relative to the starting costs of warhammer. It's an expensive hobby, buy WoC are on the cheaper end of the spectrum, unless you spam marauders and dogs.

As I listed anyway. It's all simple to paint. Spray white, and glaze.

Think i'm gonna go for this;

chaos lord on horseback
marauders
marauder horsemen
hounds
warriors
skullcrushers
knights

spray black, base khorne red, horses black for basics seraphim sepia and nuln oil for washes

Why not spray the riders white and wash them down?

The glaze method is so simple and looks so good.

I don't like glazes, they feel too shiny and artificial, for the hounds i think vermin brown base, red eyes, and stormvermin drybrush (or mechanicus standard)

I crushed out a list if you still want to use a hellcannon with knights and a cool exalted:

Exalted Hero of Khorne - biting blade, charmed shield, dawnstone, barded daemonic mount
12 Warriors of Khorne - full command, halberds, shields
5 Warhounds
5 Warhounds
5 Knights of Khorne - full command, ensorcelled weapons
Hellcannon

Should come out to 1000 points even, and costs £133.50 from GW (so cheaper with discounts), including metal halberd upgrade arms (which you could convert yourself and save even more). Clearly you want more warriors in that block, but only 12 come in the box - if you pick up one of those 3 warrior boosters (total £139.50), you can strangle the list a bit and fit them in too:

Exalted Hero of Khorne - charmed shield, dawnstone, barded daemonic mount
15 Warriors of Khorne - standard, musician, halberds, shields
5 Warhounds
5 Knights of Khorne - standard, musician, ensorcelled weapons
Hellcannon

Think the points still work out. More bodies will be more better vs dwarf artillery

- Salvage
