I'm in the market for some brushes, currently I'm using ProArte connoisseur but have a bit of cash to drop on new ones.

UK and also wondering what sizes to get.

Any recommendations for a max budget of 50 for a few brushes?

I use the ones you're using. Ok, but hook quickly.
W&N S7's are fantastic, but expensive.

Another vote for Rosemary & Co. Low price, high quality, based in the UK. I'm quite happy with their "pure sable" Series 99 rounds, as well as the Kolinsky S.33. With a very low barrier to entry and domestic shipping, I'd say they're worth a smaller trial order, at the very least. I'm glad I made one, even with the added expensive of transatlantic shipping

Why the oil brushes and not acrylic or watercolour? Is there any difference?

They're cross-listed for both oil and watercolor, if you look at the tags below. I've only ever gotten to them through the watercolor brushes category, but it's the exact same product.

Not that I'm aware of, oil painters use kollinsky sables too. Theyre just hinderingly expensive for larger sized brushes.

I use W&N S7's and Citadel, depend on your skill I would pick one of these two. W&N are best (dont buy mini series), but Citadel are definitely not bad.

It makes even the least soldier mighty, the craven is remade worthy and through its balm any hardship may be endured. Faith ennobles all of the worlds the soldier undertakes be they so base or vile, and imports to them the golden spark of transcendent purpose."

Another Rosemary and Co vote here as well. I've had about 10 brushes from them....all brilliant
