So I finally got to the stage of my modeling with imperial guard force that I'm adding on the little details like rust and grime and I really like Typhus Corrosion for my tanks. I have just one problem. I've already based most of my army with them walking around on a reddish desert soil similar to Mars and so the dark brown muck from TC looks out of place. Does anyone have any tips or experience in trying to dye TC or something similar with a different color? Would it be good to just go over the places I've already painted with a red wash? Is there something I could do to mix it before the fact?

This is my first real attempt to model a full army so I'm a bit of a noob and would appreciate any pointers.

Hmm... Typhus Corrosion is such a dark color, I'm not sure how you could turn it any other color except darker than it already is.

It's basically a thin paint (almost wash consistency) with very fine grit sand in it. You could make your own any color you like with a little bit of fine grit sand mixed in your paint choice. Do you have pics? Might be able to help you figure out color, etc with some pics.

I would just buy a wash/paint of your choice and then water it down.

So here are the picks of my Sentinel, where the problem is more pronounced because he's actually on a base, but this gives you a sense of the color I'm going for. Should I just turn this soil paint into a base and go over it again? For the future should I just water TC down and mix it with some of this paint?

Typhus corrosion wont look right for a red dust. Id look into weathering powders. You'll be able to get a red sand one i guarantee

Have you thought about dry brushing the legs with your base color?

I thought about it, but didn't think it would get the effect I was looking for. I don't want to just accent the edges, more trying to make it look dusty and dirty. Have you used dry brushing to get a dusty look?

Weathering powders are the way to go for dusty and dirty. Otherwise airbrushing, do it heavier on the legs and more faint as you go up the model, it make it look dusty where the dust is thickest around the legs. I don't think you can really get the same effect with drybrushing as you can get with powders and/or airbrushing.

You could always use a weathering powder to gunk up the areas a wash has settled in.
