Subject: WYSIWYG issue ... looking for suggestions
|
 |

Hello Dakka! I have an odd WYSIWYG issue that I'd like some suggestions for.
I typically run Kranon (the chaos lord from the DV set) as my sorcerer. Lately, I've been experimenting with giving him the Murder Sword, and a jump pack and attaching him to a largish squad of plasma Raptors. The issue comes in with the jump-pack. At my LGS no one really cares since I always have two typed lists so that my opponent can have one on hand while we play AND I make sure everyone knows ahead of time that he has a jump pack even though there's not actually a jump pack on the model. My fluff reasoning is that he's mastered some kind of demonic or psychic flight and so doesn't NEED a JP.
My issue is that I may be going to some tourneys in the next month or two and I can't figure out what to do to make him WYSIWYG when it comes to the jump pack. I'd like to not have to modify the model too much since it's such great work but like I said, I'm stuck and looking for suggestions. The only half-interesting things I've come up with so far are to repaint his cape to match Super Man's cape, and/or to give him a greenstuff scroll that says "I believe I can fly". lol So if I have to just make a new model from scratch I will, but does anyone have any suggestions for this?
|
Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..." |

I can see your reasoning. Especially with chaos. lol
however, a player could have his guys with no plasma guns and say they fart plasma out of their butts(extreme example that would never happen but something someone could use to make you look bad in a tourney)
Usually it's best to magentize something to put on and off whether its the whole jump pack or wings or if its just for the tourney, make up something to fit onto the model to represent the ability to act as though it had a jump pack.
thats the issue of playing in that type of environment....

Well...have you considered giving him wings? Or a wing like cape? Maybe get a spare fury / screamer and have it carry him around.

Hmmmm ... I kind of like the "bat-like cape" idea! Shouldn't be too hard to build off his existing cape with green-stuff and it could look really cool. Nice!
Thanks to both of you for the suggestions!

You can probably use spawn as inspiration. His outfit is pretty chaos-y

heck, if its just a one off tourney, Could even pull apart a cotten ball o it looks like smoke/mist and put some paint/sparkles or something on it or whatnot and sttach it. likely wouldnt even need glue and could just pull it off when done.

Good choice - much better than the Friendship Sword.

I like the "wings" idea. If you really don't want to convert the model any further you could try to find some large plastic wings and attach them with magnets to the bottom of the base, or to a decorative rock, or rubble pile - such that they line up with his back - add a tiny dot of that reusable wall putty (for hanging posters and things) to hold the wings firmly against his body. Zero conversion and wysiwyg.

You could put him on a Disk of Tzeentch, or some such... especially if he's a Tzeentchian Sorcerer. If you magnetize the base, you could easily swap between grounded and Jump versions.

What about a nice looking "vortex portal" attached to the base? Something that look like a small "one man" portal, and give him the "jump pack" ability of the GK?
Make it big, and bright (to make people look into it), and tell your opponents "this guys is a sorcerer who jump trough space and time, using some sort of arcane secret, it work just like a jump pack".

I'd get a second krannon model. They're cheap enough.
When you assemble that model, don't attach the backpack. Instead go out and get yourself one of these bitz:
and glue that on instead of the usual krannon backpack. There might be a tiny bit of greenstuff or plastic shaving required to get the two to attach nicely, but I can't imagine it would be too difficult.
And then you have a krannon with wings model.

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions!
As noted above you could imbed a magnet also to make it removable, good for both transport as an option.

WOW! Thanks for the suggestions everybody! It's really appreciated. Normally I have no problem thinking up/executing conversions, but for whatever reason I was really stuck on this one. Your answers are greatly appreciated!

Ailaros has the right idea. That model is dirt cheap and your likely able to find someone who will give it to you free or for next to nothing. I know I gave a few away myself having gotten more than one of the DV boxes and already having a libby model anyway.
For those who suggest the disc route, those are easily converted out of larger bases. 2 termy bases glued bottom to bottom or if you want it more impressive sized, 2 heavy weapon team bases base to base, flying stand it and go to town with bitz and modeling to make it look how you want, Put a magnet inside and another magnet under the base of your guy and poof, on off disc goodness.
