Hello all. Just a bit of an experiment... I'll be able to alpha strike the plasma, melta or rubrics with Ahriman... The rest will be able to infiltrate up in Rhinos or take a ride in the Gunship. 20 squad of cultists goes with Sorceror foot slog if I put one of the other units in the Storm Eagle.

1) Is this list legal?
2) Would you play against it?
3) How would you alter it to be more competitive (thousand sons theme though)?

1) Is this list legal?

I'm not familiar with Forge World units, but everything Codex looks fine.

2) Would you play against it?

I hear the Fire Raptor has an impressive weapons loadout. It'll give my Flyers something to chase.

3) How would you alter it to be more competitive (thousand sons theme though)?

I would use Crimson Slaughter supplement to provide the Chosen with the ability to give them Preferred Enemy; and your Chaos Cultists would gain Fear. What exactly do the Havocs have? You don't have a lot of WC (possibly enough for three powers unless you roll really good each turn). A Thousand Sons army is not known to have a lot of numbers to begin with (excluding fodder) but you really don't have a lot of numbers period with only a single squad of Thousand Sons. Your Chosen and Havocs are going to get slaughtered after they "Alpha Strike".

Are you saying bringing those units is cheese?

Sorry I forgot to mention the Havocs are taking melta guns. I suppose I should make the most of the 20 capacity... But it will will have to be Thousand Sons and that's a huge amount of points. I would use Crimson Slaughter but I want Ahriman for the infiltrate and rubric as scoring troops.

Why wouldn't you be able to use Ahriman in a Crimson Slaughter detachment?

I don't know if the Fire Raptor operates similarly to a Land Raider or Stormraven with being an Assault vehicle. With a 20-man capacity, I would consider a 10-man Terminator squad with combi-weapons to alpha strike.

I use the word alpha strike because the Kharybdis is the only vehicle I know of for Chaos that can use the space marine drop pod rules, i.e deep strike turn one (half rounding up).

I thought special characters like Ahriman were not able to be selected by the Crimson Slaughter. And that this is why the Lords and Sorcerors cannot choose veterans of the long war upgrade also.

VotLW is only available to the patron God units, meaning you can't give Havocs, CSM, etc. the upgrade. There's no rule prohibiting the use of special characters. The book even encourages you to convert your CSM army into a Crimson Slaughter warband.

Even if that is correct, why take +1ldr when plague marines, khorne berserkers, noise and thousand sons are fearless?

My guess is for first-turn Hatred. Although, unless you know that you will be facing Loyalist-heavy builds, I would just use the points elsewhere.

The list does look fun, although I would probably try to work in some sort of DS threat to push along with the infiltration. I like the sound of a 3-man Temicide unit with combi-meltas and power mauls, if you can squeeze the points in (maybe drop the 10 cultists from the 20-man blob, along with 3 Thousand Sons). You then have another threat that you can drop in where you need it most, while still maintaining your theme (since the MoT works great on units with invul saves). Since your transports are also obj-secured, you are not as bare-bones on troops as you could be.
