...for purposes of wound allocation. Can I allocate wounds from a template weapon to a model that is within 8", but not covered by any template? In other words, is the "range" the template itself, or 8"? This situation is pretty common when I use my Wraithguard with D-Scythes.

The range is "template", so anything within the templates range, not just what is covered

Templates are 8" long. So anything within 8" but only if that is the longest range weapon that was fired.

Torrent adds 12" to the range of course.
