Hey All,

I started playing 40k about a year or so ago, so in other words I started learning the game with the 6th edition rulebook. I have been reading through the DE dex in anticipation for the new one...and I have always wondered how vehicles worked in 5th edition in relation to hull points.
I always figured you would just have to blow them up, but now, after seeing the profile for haywire grenades in the old DE dex I see it mentions Glancing hits...and now I am really curious! What would a glance do to a vehicle with no hull points?

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity...

Wren, hull points didn't exist in 5th.

A glance used to to roll on the pen table with a penalty to the roll. So glances used to be really good for suppressing vehicles, the old chart was really different to now

1 Shaken
2 Stunned
3 Immobilised
4 Weapon Destroyed
5 Wrecked
6 Explodes

Glances took a -2 to the roll, so could get a 1-4. So in 5th you could use haywire scourges to stop enemy vehicles doing anything whilst you slowly killed them with lances.

They could also wreck fast moving skimmers as skimmers moving fast used to wreck on an immobilise.

Also multi immobilise went to Weapon Destroyed, multi weapon destroyed went to immo and if you are immobile with no guns a WD or Immo wrecked you.

In older editions than 5th Pen and Glance where just different tables with different results.

WrentheFaceless,
I think the Opening Poster is asking how 5th Edition handled Vehicles and their lack of Hull Points, which I will leave to the 'older' players to answer....

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

Yeah, I wasn't sure exactly were to put the question being that it is 2 editions behind...but I was super curious, and needed something to take my mind off of all the speculation and cynicism from reading new codex rumors!!!
It is sad how beaten down us 40k players are. I have only been playing for a little bit and I already have developed a major cynical attitude towards GW, I can only imagine how all of you veterans feel by now.

Thank you Drager for the detailed explanation, and everyone else for the input! My thoughts don't always translate as clearly I suppose!

There is a dint in the wall at home from repetitive head impacts....
That is how I feel about Game Workshop.

Ha ha, same here... I usually don't have a problem boycotting products/business' that I think are ridiculous or terrible, but I just can't with GW.
I still curse my cousins name for showing me Space Hulk 2 years ago, he probably should have just showed me heroin or something instead.
