I've been looking at the 7TV stuff and it's zombie spinoff and wondering if they're worth getting. Does anyone around here play either? How are they? Fairly simplistic, or are they like 40k and bloated with rules? How easy would either game be to pick up and learn?

It's simple and once you get the hang of it, it plays like a charm.

Wyrmalla is quite the veteran.

I'v seen it around, but normally ATZ seems to get the most attention. But i'v not heard anything BAD about 7TV so that's certainly a thing I guess.

Just to be clear 7TV and ATZ are completely different games. Though neither of which is nearly as bloated and complex a 40k ATZ might take a bit of getting used to as it uses the Two Hour Wargames 'Reaction" mechanic.

If you are considering ATZ, you can try the free ruleset "Chain Reaction" which uses the same reaction mechanics in a modern setting.

7tv has a free sample rulebook Here:

Other stat cards, refference charts and some other free material can be downloaded here:

I read some reviews about both and both were positive, but the club with ATZ for one of our annual halloween zombie games because a member already owned it. I would say that if you're looking for a game based on a "reaction" system and lots of supplements than go with ATZ. If you're looking for something with a distinctly vintage TV action flavor go with 7TV.

Lastly, 7TV Zombie is kind of neat in that it's a standalone game that's half the price of the full 7TV game. Would be an affordable way to dip your foot into the water and see if 7TV is for you.

7ombieTV uses slimmed down rules of 7TV, though 7TV isn't heavy on rules to begin with.

Being light on rules is okay by me. We mostly just play Song of Blades and Heroes right now. I don't think a reaction based system would be all that big of a deal to play with. My big concern with ATZ is that it seems like it's more roleplay heavy. My own personaly preference is to have something where we can just get our figures on the board and go at it.

If SBH is your thing (It's my favorite ruleset) I highly recommend Trying the Free Chain Reaction rules first before buying ATZ or any other THW product. It's a very different kind of system that takes quite a bit of control away from the players. Some folks love it, some hate it but it is more complex than SBH and I wouldn't want you to drop $ on it without knowing what you're getting into.

Personally I think it's a brilliantly conceived system, but not really my cup-o-tea. Still I think every gamer should try a THW game at some point just to experience what a full-on Reaction system is like. Like most THW products, I think ATZ can be played jumping right in (as in our halloween game http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2011/11/escape-from-new-chicago-all-things.html ), as a roleplay-ish campaign or solo. THW products apparently excel at solo play.

I'm kind of getting the itch to try 7TV zombie now.

Honestly the best part of ATZ was the random events and campaign aspects.

If you want a 3rd option try the AR:SE zombie rules. Nice little on page set for free.
