Has anyone tried the Burna Bommer Skwadron formation in a regular game of 40k? It seems pretty amazing since when you drop a template that becomes lethal terrain it will automatically kill whatever is under it, unless the model is some kind of jump troop or flier. At least that is the way I understand it.

It's an apocalypse only formation, those things tend to do stuff like that.
It's not usable in regular games, barring house-rules.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

Not anymore. 7th changed all that. ANY formation is allowed in 40k. There is no differing between formations, Apoc or otherwise.

First of all, that's wrong. The skwadron is a flier wing as described in the Apocalypse book. That's not the same as a formation. Even Apocalypse's battle formations work different from WH40k formations.
Second, the skwadron works of rules that don't exist outside the apocalypse book. You need to play a game of apocalypse for the formation to do anything.

This is correct. Apoc Formations and 40k Formations are 2 different things. There's been an Apoc formation or 2 in WDs since 7th dropped even - stating that they are just for Apoc.

Alright. I stand corrected. Thanks for the help. I haven't used any of those formations, but I don't see how they are any more powerful than an Imperial Knights formations with multiple super heavies except now only Imperial gets to be overpowered.

It's less about being overpowered than about being a different game. Apocalypse is an add-on to Warhammer40k with a whole slew of additional rules. Either you play it, or you don't.
