I've heard very good things about the Richard Borg command and colours system and the myriad of board games that are based on it, so I've decided to invest in one of them.

I've heard great things about Memoir '44 but I don’t want to play yet another WW2 system. Battlecry (the ACW game) also tempted by but seems to be stand alone and there isn’t much of a community for it. So I've decided to go for one of the Fantasy Flight ones. There seem to be two games currently produced by FFG based on C&C, Battle for Westeros and Battlelore.

Of the two Battleore has the newest edition, but I don't want to assume that means it's the best system, wheras Battle for Westeros has the advantage of being based on Game of Thrones of which I'm a fan and already has a ton of expansions.

Has anyone played both and can they make a recommendation? Or perhaps is there another C&C based game I should be investing in instead?

I own both, I've played Battlelore but haven't played Westros. Based on my review of the rules they are similar in the mechanics and game play.

Battlelore starts with mildly historic settings for the early scenarios and then introduces a fantasy element as you progress through the scenarios.

The one difference I saw with Battle for Westros is the introduction of heroes/commanders who issue orders to move units around.

Either one is probably a good buy.
