Nobody in my community really plays the necrons and so I do not really have a basis for how well they play on the board. So I was curious on a scale of 'nids to eldar, how strong are they?not going to power game with them but the community I play in does bring some medium to rough lists.

I'd say somewhere between codex marines to eldar. equal to eldar if LoW are in play.

While things like flayed ones and destroyers are on the low end of the game, and the warriors/immortals are nothing out of the ordinary, they still have wraiths and Dlords who are very good, and bargelords, nightscythes and annibarges who are overpowering, and some good combos like the royal court disco inferno, the dispairmarks and others.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Upper Tier. Not as ridiculously broken as Eldar, but still above average.

Necrons used to be considered the true top tier codex before Tau came out. Necron's ability to take a large number of flyers and do last turn objective grabs were almost uncontested at the end of 5th edition and early 6th.

Tau has the skyfire/interceptor depth of models to address Necrons and the Heldrake that was being spammed at the time so Necron Flyers tapered back a bit.

Then Eldar came with their wave serpents and seer councils.

Nowadays though, I would consider Necrons to still be in the upper range. They still have access to a number of good flyers (which is a great counter to knights) and a large amount of AV13 vehicles (great against wave serpent spam). The units within the army are very tactical and focused in that there are very little options to customize units and models outside of HQs. This allows for a Necron player to look at the meta of the tournament/games they are approaching and identify specific units to fill the needs as opposed to starting with 1 squad and trying to customize them to fill a specific needs (CSM Chosen could be an example of this).

So at the moment - I would put them on par with Tau at this point - maybe vanilla Space Marines as well. I have beat Eldar a good number of times with the Necrons as well as Knights and many times it comes down to dice or truly the player/mission.

With the current book, I wouldn't put them towards the lower end of the power spectrum where DA and CSM tend to be slotted. Necrons are a tactical, powerful army that has held up really well with the ever changing meta that is modern 40k. This may all change when their new book comes out here within a handful of months.

According to the ToF-statistics they are around 55%
That is just below Eldar, Imperial Knight, Daemons and Tau.
But they are slightly ahead of Space Marines.
It basically puts them in either the top of middle-tier or the bottom of the top-tier.

PS. The scale goes from Blood Angel to Eldar.

Against medium+ lists they do quite well, especially if your opponents don't have a lot of experience with them.

Our strongest list (without a Transcendent C'tan) is AV13 Gunline... Catacomb Command Barge Overlords, 5 Warriors in Ghost Arks (with or without crypteks), and Annihilation Barges cover all the bases. The sheer number of shots that tau and eldar put out has limited the Wraith-based and Nighscythe based lists.
Expect this to change soon... we are one of the last two armies with a softcover codex. I expect a lot of what makes the AV 13 wall work will be taken away.

Necrons are, surprisingly, the last softcover out of the remaining 3 to still be a higher tier army. But, as people have said, it's only a very few specific builds that are considered "competitive". Most of our stuff will probably change in the new book, but I hope they keep most of the stuff the same.

Also, I hate that your scale of power is Tyranids to Eldar. I wish people would stop dogging on Tyranids. They're not that bad off.

I said it jokingly. Nids can be good but in our community our nid players really really struggle

Indeed, the av 13 wall is quite strong.
Wraiths and flyer builds tend to struggle vs very shooty armies.

That's weird. I'm curious as to what they're using. I play typical all-around lists and have practically tabled Blood Angels, Tau, Space Marines, Chaos, and Eldar and new Orks. I feel Nids really shouldn't be strugging, they have some good stuff.

I've never seen Wraith and Flyer spam to be effective, nor fun to play. I love the look of Skimmers moving across the battlefield, and it also seems to be the best tactic for Necrons right now, with 7th Ed. making vehicles tougher.

Wraithspam with a Dlord is good at out-eliting other elite units, and not dying. Flyer spam isn't nearly as good in maelstrom missions, but still okay. Arks and Barges with their AV13, Living Metal and Jink are crazy good though.

Things like flayed ones and scarabs are pretty good if you take the Forgeworld Flayed Court rules though.
