So I went down to GW today and the Shadowsun I'd ordered had been delivered. So during the day I assembled her and managed to get a game to use her in.

I deployed and managed to infiltrate her about 14" from the rear of my opponents Leman Russ Tank.

I steal the initiative, jump out, get 2 pens on the Leman Russ which then gets wrecked with the help of Longstrike. Great start for my new HQ.

I then go to role my first ever awesome Shadowsun warlord trait 3D6 jet pack move and I role manage to role 3"! Yes first ever time using it and I role 3 1's. I couldn't believe it.

I'm gonna call this new model syndrome. And I'm gonna assume I'm not the only one who's had strange experiences with brand new models so if you've got any why don't you share them? I'm sure there's bound to be some funny ones.

New models performing utterly horribly is an observable effect. The first time my friend played his looted Carnifex, I instagibbed it with a Fire Dragon squad. Then, the first time I ran my Carnifex, it got devoured by Scourges.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

The only solution is to constantly buy new models. It mitigates the effect somewhat :p

Freshly painted models also have this problem, especially if they're the first ones to get painted out of your models in general.

(Note to self: be sure to buy/assemble/run a SM 3-Tac-Marine pack before each game I intend to run a strong new model...)

In a game of Space Hulk yesterday, I went 9 of 12 turns without losing a model. On the 9th turn, the first Termie went down, and damn right it was the only painted one I was using!

On the flip side, I recall doing this to someone else. The guy had a brand new monolith that he brought to a 1000 point game, along with a C'tan and about 30 warriors. One manticore shot later, and the Monolith and about half the warriors were blown to bits.

There is not this idea.

This sounds like science needs to be done. I've got a fairly new model, just painted. (Ork warboss). I shall test this.

Science!

Ralai is relatively new, and still have not quite lost his tendency to have his weapons get hot. ALOT.

(to put it into prespective, I tend to shoot every turn with his hot profiles, that is 2 shots per turn, needing 1s to get hot and failing a 3+ save to hurt himself he should take on average a wound every 9 turns. he somehow manages to burn himself twice per game, and he seldom lives past turn 4 to manage to do so.)

The first wound my Kharn ever scored turned him into a spawn.

I had one single game where my newly painted unit didn't totally whiff it and get murdered. I'd just painted a squad of assault Terminators for my Crimson Fists, and I told absolutely no one that they were new. As a result they singlehandedly won me the game and cleared out the majority of an 1850 Necron force. Only afterwards did anyone know they were new!

Trust me its really bad if you convert most of your models with new weaponry, head swaps or GS work.

They get nailed when I use them the first time I use them then when I get around to painting they get nailed again...

Most all of my forge world stuff usually does terrible, as I rarely field it. Decimator with double butcher cannons, hits twice with 8 shots. Wounds a T4 model once. Blight drones scatter like mad, but my soul grinders always hit dead on.

Busted out two new Vindicare Assassins. Friend was running a mechanized list with a lot of light vehicles. I thought they'd be easy pickings for turbo-penetrators.

1st round- Vindi A misses. Vindi B hits, rolls a 1 to penetrate.

2nd round- Vindi A misses. Vindi B hits, rolls a 1 to penetrate.

3rd round- Vindi A killed by a single unit despite 2+ cover. Vindi B hits, rolls a 1 to penetrate.

4th round (the big shocker!)- Vindi B manages to put a hull point on a Ghost Ark.

5th round- Vindi B dies.

Excellent debut, gentlemen.

My Mawloc. I hate using it, simply because it never works for me. First game with it, didn't come in until turn 4, which the opponent then conceded anyway. Second game he came in turn 3, and did what he has done pretty much ever since: scattered off into an open area, and gets shot to bits in the ensuing turn. Then game 3, he came in turn 3, scattered, mishapped and died. For obvious reasons, I rarely use him.

I've also had the same luck in Fantasy, but won't go into that, seeing as this is about 40k. >.<

My looted knight. The very first time I got to field him was against 2 riptides - nothing wrong with that, I love me some Pacific Rim style actin! My knight managed to get shot a bunch, I failed almost all of my ion shield saves, so by the time I got to one of the 'tides, I was down to 3 HP. I declare a charge and roll snake eyes... And then lose another 2 HP to overwatch. I somehow survived the next turn, only to charge the riptide once more, wound it once with HoW and then get smacked to death by it.

The worst part? When the knight went nuclear, the massive blast scattered off the table. It didn't even take that cheeky riptide with it!

I'm sure you should have killed the riptide before it got to strike. D-weapons man....

I continued to roll horribly, meaning I only got a single hit in, and managed to deal 2 wounds total with it. Sadly, that wasn't enough. Destroyer is great and all, but the riptide can have a pretty nice invuln, so it actually has a chance against knights even when you're not rolling horribly.
