Howdy all,

I've been lurking about the forums for some time now actually, I started Warhammer 40k/Fantasy probably about 5-6 months ago however never really got that much into it. Mainly due to laziness and not really finding an army that was interesting with the restriction the local gaming club imposed on us.

However with a new Dark Eldar Codex on the horizon and abandoning my old club for a new one which does not have a no Eldar/anything which can shoot well rule set or flies... I can finally play the army I actually wanted to play when I first looked into picking up the hobby. So three days ago I hopped to my local store, grabbed myself the models that I believed will not be changed or updated when the new release comes to its full fruition and started frantically building so that I could get some games in before the new Codex so that I could learn some rules, see what has changed and decide what out of the new/old stuff is actually worth buying.

So my current model count is now:

Archon,
Drazhar (Had one from ages ago)

5 Incubi

20 Wyches
10 Warriors
5 Scourges

2 Venom's
1 Raider
3 Reavers

(And an un-built Razorwing Jet Fighter).

I plan to fully paint and build this army prior to purchasing anything else other than the new codex and maybe Vect (Because why not?) as I really want to see my army completed and looking glorious on the tabletop and while doing that just restricting myself to playing 1000 Point games so I can get a feel for what I really need to improve the army and expand my points. I am currently unsure of my paint scheme however I will be working on it throughout the weekend and will probably do a Blog on it if I feel it is interesting enough.

I've never really painted a full army before however I have done a lot of single models over the past 6 months and to be honest painting is the only thing which has kept me going so far till I finally found a club worth gaming at. I've also done a fair amount of converting over this time, though it has mainly been with Undead/Vampires, Chaos Warriors and a few Eldar/Emporer's Children stuff thrown in for good measure. So hopefully if the new packs are decent I will be able to do a lot of interesting things in the future.

Played my first game yesterday (Which is why I had that mad building rush, even cut myself on my Raider ) it was 1000 points of Unbound Dark Eldar vs Unbound Tyranids using the following troops:-

Dark Eldar: / Tyranids:

1 Archon (Huskblade, Soultrap, 2++ Invuln) / Swarm Lord
4 Incubi with Archon in Venom / Trygon
5 Scourges / Exocrine
3 Reaver's / Venomthrope
5 Trueborn Zonethrope
5 Trueborn + Venom / 5 Gargoyles
10 Bloodbride + Raider / 5 Gargoyles
12 Hormaguants
5 Genestealer's

We were both new players so the game was fairly slow going as we kept referring to the rule book, codex's and our notepads but the game was fun, turn one Tyranids went first just moving and doing physic related stuff she only could buff up her own units and the Exocrine was just out of range at this point in time. On my turn however I managed to deploy my two squads of warriors in buildings either side of each other creating a cross fire zone into the Tryanids with one Venom hiding just behind the wall providing cover but still holding LoS.

I moved the Raider Holding my Blood Brides into the center just behind the tallest building meaning the only thing in LoS was the Gargoyles that I wished for them to assault, my Scourges managed to move to the second floor of the building providing them with some cover and allowing them to shoot down and the Tyranid Swarmlord but to get there they had to run so no shooting from them. My Reaver's Bladevaned into the squad of 5 Gargoyles at the left side of the map killing 3/5 and my Archon and his Incubi Deployed in front of the massive Trygon ready to do battle.

In shooting my first group of 5 Trueborne with the Venom shot at the Venomthrope and did 8 wounds however she saved all of them... Fail, my second group of five fired upon the Guants killing just 4, my Blood Brides charged the Gargoyles killing them all before they could all roll their attacks, my Biker's remained locked with the two remaining Gargoyles doing bugger all, however my Archon charged the Trygon missed 3 wounds but one landed and his Huskblade turned the Monster to dust and his Soultrap awarded him an extra 3Str...

In round two her shooting only managed to kill a single Incubi in total however the charge from her gaunts killed off my Reaver's and her Genestealer's charged my Archon and Incubi after the squad was debuffed for -2 BS and -2 WS from the Zonethrope... Ouch, the Genestealers killed one Incubi and removed my Warlords 2++ Invuln due to a bad roll from me however he only suffered one wound and her Swarmlord hopped up onto the Building just the opposite side of the Scourges and let our a Physic Screech which killed 2 Incubi, 3 Bloodbrides and a Scourge.

In my turn I poured all my shooting into the Swarmlord killing him with the combined shots from a Raider, 10 Trueborn combined from two sides, 4 scourges and a Venom (Sweet revenge) and then on assualt my Wyches charged the Genestealers, however my Archon now all alone had the highest initiative so he attacked and killed all the Genestealer's himself with a single swipe of his sword, the Bloodbride's consolidated taking line breaker and unfortunately by this point since we both arrived late we ran out of time and it was evidently going to be my Victory so she conceded and we shook hands... And our rematch is tomorrow!

So it's going well so far and I look forward to sorting my Dark Eldar good and proper, I plan to use the sight to maybe do a Blog, put some pictures up, maybe share some battle reports.... But mainly to get some good painting and modeling tips

Look forward to hobbying with you all!

Regards,
Archon Nightwhisper

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

There is not this idea.

Hello, and welcome. Sounds like you had a fun game. Sometimes just finding the right community is what it takes to really want to play, I think.

Today's game went well, once more another victory for the Dark Eldar...

The Archon was once more the most valued played killing the Swarmlord once more after 3 rounds of combat as well as 5 Genstealers a Venthrope and a couple of Guants/Gargoyles. The game was a absolute slaughter with all the Tyranids being killed off the board at the cost of 3 Reavers, 10 Wyches and 4 Incubi... So went very well overall.

Today I plan to get started on painting and plan to have my Raider completed bar it's crew which I will do at the same time as the Kalabite Warriors.

Isn't Tyranid the best match up for Dark Eldar though ? You should let that poor opponent a chance to destroy something else

Hey! Welcome to Dakka Dakka!

I started out with Blood Angels, then Dark Eldar came in a boxed set with the new Space Marine plastics, that was a great set! I'm not sure if I'll collect the new DE but they do look fantastic!

Would like to see pictures of your finished kits.

Cheers for all the welcomes,

Today's game was a draw, however it was a damn good game... Very exciting, it was generally a slaughter with the Dark Eldar killing many Tryanids, however she used the one which spawns Gaunts this time and they just kept on coming, so every Dark Eldar loss was a major blow. I got to use Dhrazar since I had no other units to use to fill the 230 point cost and dropped Haywire's with the spare points on everything to bring on a Succubus with Hydragaunts for the Bloodbrides, however my Bloodbrides and Succubus spent 5 turns locked in combat with an Exocrine and just could not remove the final wound (five rounds it was still alive on one wound left)

Dhrazar was killed in turn 4, and to win we both either had to kill the Archon/Succubus or The Gaunt Spawner/Hive Tyrant..... But the game ended on turn 5 thankfully, else she would of definitely killed my Archon as he lost his 2++ Invuln and was on one wound.

Damn close game, my opponent has certainly improved greatly in these last few games we've played However now I shall be focusing on getting some more painting done, my Raider is now finished so next up is the two Venom's!
