Been watching people fly RC planes at my local field and finally decided I wanted to get one of my own. So are there any Dakka RC enthusiasts?

I half got into it with learner planes. Great fun but where I live its too windy to reliably fly so I have just one craft waiting for that windless day. Im not into it enough to fly the planes that can tough out the wind here like the old guys at the club. I work with one and he spend a lot of time building his planes and upgrading the electronics etc. Great fun that stuff.
I stick to indoor helicopters but its not enough. One day when I have more time ill get into it.
I advise getting the plane set up to take 2 controllers. Have you fly the plane but an expert one the 2nd controller to take over just in case. Gives you less risk on your learning flights.

I bought one of these bad-boys, and had tons of fun with it. I used to live in a loft apartment, and this helicopter was perfect for flying in the house. I played with it until the LiPo stopped holding a charge, but that's about the extent of my experience. I've thought about getting bigger, outdoor model, but ehhh

Just wait till you get one with miniguns on it. I have one with 8 rounds and its great to chase around kids when they come over. Sometimes I give them nerf guns and they try shoot down the indoor choppers while the choppers shoot them back and have to come back for re arming. Some of those mini ones even have cameras now. Makes a mess though.

I wanted to do that, but my cat has some kind of PTSD or something. We adopted it off the street. So I cant do it any more. My last cat loved it.
The best thing about the little heli's is the price though. like 15NZD for one that may last a few months to a year is well worth it.

Yup! I think mine was $20USD (with shipping) and it lasted about six months, and I got tons of use out of it. Definitely worth the money.

I had a .60 size Hobbico trainer that I flew for a bit, my dad flew helicopters. I was into it for a bit but its an expensive hobby to learn, you usually don't get second chances with them, especially the helis. This was all before brushless really took off so the only real option was nitro.
I recommend picking up a flight sim with a controller, will save you lots of money and you can practice anywhere if you have a laptop.
I got out of the aerial RC stuff and now I do 1/10th scale crawling and 1/16th scale racing. Lots of fun and parts are cheaper

Get a cheap foam plane starter set ($100ish), that way when you inevitably crash you can just tape it back together and eventually replace a $10 piece of foam instead of having to rebuild the whole structure of the plane. Accept that you're going to crash, and don't even think about getting anything nice until you've had some practice.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I have three helis.
Two tanks, one micro short track car and one micro crawler.
The micro cars are just so much fun..
Any place can be your race track or crawler course..
Indoor crawling up Rulebook hill..
