As an alternative to a LRC list, what about a big squad of Vanguard Veterans with jump packs?
Attach a Chaplain and Captain or Master to the squad.

You're a bit faster thanks to Crusader and the Chaplain pairs well with the extra attacks that Veterans get. Sprinkle in some melta bombs and storm shields for flavor.

BT doesn't provide any particular advantage to a jumpack squad. That's not to say it's a bad unit since you get the usual BT perks but I'd probably go with Shrike if I were to do some sort of Vanguard CC unit. At least their CT lends itself well to jumpack units.

Worth a try I guess.

I'm hoping Crusader gives me the extra bump of speed and the natural boosts in close combat to carry the squad through challenges.

I have a feeling that even with crusader, bikes are stil better due to ignoring terrain and 12' flat-out. Not telling about t5 and tl bolters, relentless gravs.

Of course bikes are better, but also cost more and get even less boost from BT CT.

Exactly my point, a close combat squad is a natural choice for Templars, and I think Vanguard are a pretty decent assault unit that isn't limited to a transport.
