Hey Dakkanoughts, I've a question for you all.

I recently bought some Gal Vorbak, and as you may know they use 40mm bases. However, as I'll be using them primarily as Possessed for my 40k army, I'd like to know if there is a way of easily transferring them from a 28mm to a 40mm base?

My initial ideas were to drill an appropriately sized hole in a 40mm base to slot the 28mms in or to fix the feet of the Gal Vorbak to a base decoration which is in turn fixed by something like Blu-Tac.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?I feel sure I've missed an obvious workaround.

Thanks in advance.

One would be magnets in the feet and then in each base, which would allow you to swap easily. Another would be to pin them to either base in a similar manner, with pins in the feet and holes in the bases.

I'd magnetize the bottom of the 28 mm.
Then I'd cut out a circle matching the 28 mm base in the 40 mm base.
Then use that 40 mm as a template to cut a magnet out of magnetic sheet.
Then glue magnetic sheet underneath 40 mm base.

Use square magnets if you can find them. Prevents the models from spinning around on the base.

Check out warbases. They do custom cut bases and trays with slots in them if you want. I use them to multi base my samurai which are on pennies.

Thanks for getting back to me guys.

Does anyone have experience with the magnetic sheets Tjom mentioned? Any reputable sellers in the UK?

Here's an easier way -- Secret Weapon miniatures has 40mm beveled hollowed blanks -- $10 for 5:

http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=79_80&products_id=338

1. Roll (flatten) a disc of green stuff > 40mm, but relatively thin (about 1.5 - 2 mm). Press the GS disc into the 40mm base, and clean up the edges. Flatten the GS so that it's a nice working surface (it doesn't have to be perfect).

2. Press a blank, slotted 25mm base wherever you want your 25mm base to sit. This will cut a donut hole into the GS. Remove the 25mm base by lifting it from the slot, remove the GS in the middle, and let the GS on the base cure. Once it's totally hardened, dress up the 40mm donut.

3. Put a magnet on the 40mm base, and one on the 25mm base, and presto!

I have also seen 25mm bases with straight edges (instead of beveled ones), but I'm not sure where. This avoids the unsightly gap at the top. I suppose they'd be easy enough to cast in resin -- you could just use a stack of quarters to make a mold.

Could also use a 2p piece to base the main figure. 2p is a little under 26mm in diameter flat enough to not stick up too much and if you get a relatively new one it will stick to a magnet too.
