I seem to remember recently reading that GW currently has a total of four Games Designers left (with two being used for Fantasy and two for 40K), but I cannot remember where.

Any help from Dakka?

I think it's abit generous to call anyone at GW a Games Designer, but okay.

Vetock, Cruddace, Kelly, Jervis?

Presumably with LOTR they just tie up a rabid dog and try to translate his barks into the rules.

But 2 game designers?! 2 for all of Warhammer 40k?! That explains Tau and Eldar I guess.

How much "design" does either game need, though? The core rule-set is 30 years old. They have got to the point where basically they are recycling ideas that have been done before (e.g. opportunity fire in 40K repeated from 2nd edition. Psychic phase is Magic phase transplanted from Fantasy.)

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I imagine there's more than that. - For example, you've missed James Hewitt who came on as a ruleswriter.

I'd say they need a ton of design because the ruleset is 30 years old.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Why? It's barely changed, there are virtually no new mechanics, just new rules for new units and some random deck chair shuffling between editions.

One designer could have come up with the blueprints for 7th edition in an afternoon (Lets take tthe magic phase from fantasy and allow users to ignore the FOC).

I meant that it needs a redesign from the ground up.

Gotcha - I agree they should be throwing proper design effort at it.
