I get the feeling that he's pretty good with his warlord trait and his hard core PK. If he gets to attack he will wreck. Is he actually a competitive choice though or is he overpriced?

For the guy who leaves it all on the field (because he doesn't pick up after the game).

He's a sidegrade. He has a nice fixed warlord trait for your footsloggas. But he pays for an attack squig and combi-rokkit and can't take gifts.

He is a good choice. Not the greatest, but solid. The only bad thing on him is his combi-rokkit. He basicaly is a more relyable fottsloging Warboss.
As for the Gifts - if special characters could take them, that would be just ridiculous.

if your heavy on footsloggers.. is he worth taking OVER a warboss with eavy armor, PK and finkin cap?

Attack squig is basically an extra attack, and the kombi-rokkit is only like 3 points overpriced... His base FNP and armor actually make him pretty survivable from non-specialist guns I've found... On 6 bolster wounds he takes 2 compared to 1 from a MA Warboss...

And his klaw is ridiculously good

Attack squig is statistically + 0.22 hit improvement against ws 4 or lower. It's basically master-crafted for 15 points.

He's going to fail at least one attack roll per try (90 percent of the time). And with a shred PK, that's basically hit = wound

I'm not telling it's bad. It's just a bit overpriced and worse than a previous +1 attack incarnation.

And he can't take gifts that are really juicy. If you compare a DLS with attack squig and shred on a klaw, you find out that for just 10 pts over a squig, you get much more rerolls and +1 WS for the entire squad. And possibility to reroll armor saves to boot.

The only redeeming quality of Grukk is good fixed warlord trait. That's why i've stated that he's not better or worse but rather is a sidegrade.

A little bit overpriced, but for sure a nice alternative if your boss is not a biker, nor in a Mega-armor.
But I am not sure all his feats together can beat the added value of a Lucky Stick though.

Nobody said you can't take both - Grukk and a generic Warboss with the Lukki Stick. One as your warboss, the other - as a nice beatstick. And with the Ork Horde detachment you would have room for some other HQ, possibly a Painboy.

Generally speaking, you won't have space for him. You are absolutely going to want a painboy no matter what you do, sticking one in a full-sized mob (of anything) with your boss is way too good.

That leaves one character slot in the Ork Horde. If you're looking for a special character.. get grotsnik over grukk, seriously. He gives a big mob of boyz all the benefits of having a boss and a painboy, plus they become fearless.
