AFAIK in 7th all you get to work with is "If a fortification is taken as part of an army, then it is set up with the rest of the units in the army using the same deployment rules as the other models."
This is pretty clear, stating that your fortifications have to be deployed entirely within your deployment zone, and during your general deployment. Correct?

What do you do with fortification models like the Skyshield? @ ~14.5" unfurled when on a 4' wide table, that straight up doesn't fit in a standard DZ. Are you therefore simply not allowed to unfurl upon deployment, since your model will then be partially outside your DZ, and be stuck waiting until your first turn to unfurl?
And does a Fortress of Redemption even fit wholly within a 12" deployment zone?

What about Obstacles (tanglewire, barricades, tank traps) purchased with a fortification? Do they count as part of the fortification for deployment? Stronghold Assault calls them "battlefield debris".
Do these pieces of battlefield debris have to be deployed entirely within your DZ as well?

The Deployment rules offer several suggestions for things to do when your army doesn't fit into your deployment zone.

I see no reason that they wouldn't be.

The first part of the deployment rules say hold models in reserve, which I don't think is viable due to the fortification nature of the Skyshield. Not having a movement speed etc.
Increasing deployment zone size, for most people's gaming tables, means decreasing distance between opposing players' deployment zones. And I'd be hard pressed to find anyone willing to do that.
I don't really see either of those options as a viable solution.

As for the battlefield debris, the answer IS in the deployment section, thank you for redirecting me. Under "Scenery Upgrades"; "upgrades can either be... or set up as a separate model within 6" of the model taking the option." Ergo, the battlefield debris upgrades still deploy as models in your army, and must be wholly within DZ.

Putting the Skyshield into Reserves is not a suitable option for obvious reasons, changing the deployment zones requires opponent consent, nor is the placement being hindered by Terrain so it is a good question.
Sadly the answer from a Rule as Written perspective is clear: It is forced into Reserves where it is instantly destroyed.

Worse, I can even think of a situation where the Sky-shield is required to be unfurled on deployment....

The other option is to keep it in mind that you're going to need to deploy that Skyshield *somewhere* and adjust the rest of your list to suit.

As in: "Hmm, I am *not* going to be able to fit these other three tanks on the table with the Skyshield. Maybe I could replace two tanks and their upgrades with a Knight, and the third tank with a smaller vehicle with more upgrades..." and that sort of thing.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Psienesis,
The problem stems from Models and psudo-Models that might be too big to fit into the agreed on Deployment Zone, irrelevant of what other Models are in the Army.

The Skyshield will definitely have a problem unfurled on a Dawn of War Table if it is 2 GW Battleboards in length (or 48" total).

Hammer and Anvil and Vanguard Strike should not be an issue.

Looking at the Rules, what RaW is there to ban the Skyshield from being 2.5" out of the table edge?
"A unit cannot voluntarily move or be placed beyond the table edge unless it" ?

I am looking for the "fully onto table" rule, and in the case of buildings/terrain, not Unit or moving models...

Also, Laughingcarp, I have seen many times in Threads that the Skyshield cannot be "physically moved". It has a "Furled-Unfurled" rule, but you are never allowed to physically change your model and bend the walls up or down.
So when playing a Skyshield, and playing in a true LoS environment, would you have it fully glued in place Flat, or glued in place "Walled"? Because the rules then tell you you can choose "Furled-Unfurled", regardless of how you glued the model.

When glued "Walled", does it not fit in 12"?

Hah, that's an interesting point BlackTalos.
As for you looking up rules regarding buildings/terrain instead of models, as stated above it is set up "using the same deployment rules as the other models".

That would allow access to the one scenario where deploying the model in the 'unfurled state' makes sense, without making it an illegal placement....
I can also support that it is also, technically, correct as the Rule does not grant permission to change the configuration of the Model as part of selecting the unfurled/furled state.
