We all know the awesome shooting the vindicare assassin can cause and blow up your precious precious wave serpents turn 1 or disable your av14 bawkes assassult vehicles leaving them useless in the back field. but has anyone ever used him in close combat? Don't get me wrong, he is meant for sitting across the board and picking things off... but...

I feel like he would be pretty legit in close combat unless I am reading his rules wrong. And if I am then... well. uh... just ignore me =D

But his pistol should be able to be used in close combat and the ammo type can still be chosen for this engagement meaning 5 attacks (6 on charge, he has a close combat weapon and a pistol) and can choose his ammo based on what he is attacking.

So, fighting monsterous creatures? sure, he will wound you on a 2 up with an ap2 pistol

fighting stormshields? he can ignore that and wound 4+ with 6 attacks.

Fighting a dreadnought? sure he fights at str 10 - or - fighting hordes.. each attack does d3 wounds.

Am I reading this wrong or is this just not used because of his love affair with his rifle?

Sounds cool, but unfortunately his pistol counts as a generic close combat weapon. Only person that specifically states that they can use their pistols in close combat is cypher.
