Trying to figure out my 2000 point imperial knight list. Ideally it will be a pure ik army, and I'll probably just pick and choose them to ally into my ultramarines army.

imperial Knights:

Knight Castigator (warlord)
Knight Paladin
Knight Paladin
Knight Errant
Gerantius

Total:2000 points

Castigator will deal with Hordes in combat and act as a mediocre anti air unit. Paladins will shoot things, gerantius will use his magic character abilities to challenge out chapter masters and such, and melt tanks with the Errant.

Remember that the Castigator is now a character too - your nominated warlord gains the Character unit subtype.

The Castigator is okay in combat at crowd control, but thanks to stomp and sustained-fire battlecannons, everyone's okay-ish at crowd control. Tempest attack and deflagrate are a lethal combination, though.

Where a castigator really shines is murdering monstrous creatures at range. Ordnance weapons aren't great at it, because no mater how lethal a shot is, it can only cause one wound, whilst a burst from a twin-linked castigator cannon can chop up a carnifex or haruspex very easily in a single burst.

I'm looking at the Imperial Knight FAQ, and I'm not seeing anything about that. I don't think there's anything like that in the BRB either, so, how would the IK warlord become a character?

He is incorrect. ANY model can be a Warlord. But in this case, your war lord and lord of war could but might not want to be the same knight.
