I'd like some suggestions for non-standard paint schemes for deckplate style bases. Pictures of said paint schemes would be great.
I'm almost finished painting up a batch of Van Saar. The next step will be to paint up their bases. They are based on these bases from Champ Industries.

By the way, these bases are awesome. They're hard plastic, really cleanly done and only $0.30 each!

Anyway, I want to do something more than just give them a drybrush of metalic and some hazard stripes. I'd also like them to be a nice contrast to the Van Saar figs which have alot of grey in them as pictured below.

Basically I'm looking for a paint scheme that will "pop".

Use salt method and make rust showing through paint on the metal. Other than that i always think bumble bee stripes look good on industrial themes. Youre pretty limited with pre printed bases

Went ahead with the painting, Mixed it up a bit with orange, blue, grey and brown panels and of course some metalics.

Thansk for the suggestion regarding the salt method. Its a great effect, but I'm kind of speed painting these guys, so just gave it my usual really heavy dirty brown wash.
