Hello everybody! I used to collect
40k years ago. I spent a loooot of money on it, but because I got in it too quickly, 90% of my models weren't even glued together. Fastforward 3 years, my collection is sold, a new
PC is bought for the money. 6 months later I decide to get into the hobby, veeeeeery slowly this time. I decided to buy 1 set of tactical marines to practice painting with. The sheer awesomeness of the miniature combined with many
PC warhammer games played, as well as a nerd mind, made me decide to create my own chapter. I will post my ideas here and welcome your suggestions. Keep in mind - all of this is
WIP.
Original Chapter Name: Fire Legion
Current Chapter Name: The Lost Legion
Chapter's progenitor: Unknown, the chapter won't admit responsibility out of shame
Foundation reasons: One of many additional chapters, specializing in guerrilla warfare, working behind enemy lines. Due to it's purpose the original number of Marines was lowered to less than 500 (5 companies)
Founded: ~40th Millenium
History: the chapter history was of little relevance or originality until about 70 years before current
WH40k timeline. During one of thousands of wars, the Justice Legion was asked to assist Imperial Guard in Sector Foridia. Despite of the unusual request to bring full fleet, the Justice Legion arrived on time and well prepared. Nothing, however, could've prepared them for a massive scale invasion of Chaos Forces. The Imperial Guards were nowhere to be seen, their forces all but decimated. Half of the legions fleet was destroyed by the initial attack, thus Space Marines decided to regroup. They entered Warp in order to retreat, but got stuck there, because a lot of psychers died in the attack. The details of what happened inside the Warp remain unknown (story will expand here) but after 70 years the servants of emperor came back. Tragically, only the strongest survived warps influence and corruptive powers. And even so, they became slightly mutated. Thus, every brother that survived the onslaught as well as any new candidate (gene seed is also mutated) must burn their whole body. Those that survive formulate The Lost Legion. Deemed traitors, heretics and blasphemers by the Imperium of Man, The Lost Legion operates as a small group of the most elite warriors. They follow Imperial Convoys, distress signals etc. and work behind enemy lines to ensure victory for the Emperor, hoping that one day, they can return as Adeptus Astartes in glory.
Appearance: Each battle brother has his body significantly scarred and burnt. Because of that, almost none of them ever shows their skin, much less heads. On the occasion that they do, their scary body chills blood in human and alien alike. As to their armor, while they used to honor bright green power armor, there are now so few of them, and they lack crew to maintain it, that they mostly use dark tones of green, brown and black. Almost every Marine has a slightly different color of armor.
Chapter Tactics: Thinking of Salamanders due to flamethrower benefits, but I'm not yet sure
Chapter organisation: Extremely unorthodox
I
st Legion ~50 veterans of battle inside the warp. This brothers are formed from the most elite soldiers, even for Space Marines. They all lived, fought and died together in the warp, thus their bond is more similar to friendship of Guardsman, than a standard Marine.
II nd Legion ~20-80 tactical/devastator marines, who recently joined from scout legion
III rd Legion a small amount of Scouts able to withstand corruption and fire cleansing rituals.
Fleet: Currently, The Lost Legion is known to have only 1 big ship of unknown class. It is certaint, however, that it's not the biggest ship in the empire.
Weapons and equipment: Due to the battle in the warp, almost all infantry-sized equipment has been taken away from fallen battle brothers. This chapter has a lot more heavy weapons than Marines to use them. Because of that, every veteran Marine can choose any amount of equipment they demand and even most tactical marines can. They lack Centurion armor and can only field a very small amount of vehicles. There is only a handful of rhinos, a few landspeeders and bikes. Because of that, they use drop pods as their dedicated transport, as well as a few small infantry carriers.
Operations: With such limited resources, the most common way of The Lost Legion is to drop 5-10 man squads in a critical location of an enemy, often at night. These squads are called Exterminators, and can field veterans, tacticals and scouts alike. After a couple minutes of intense destruction, a small transport ship arrives, extracting battle brothers back to the ship.
I'm currently building a diorama of an Exterminator squad in action. I've only just started, and I'm also not the most talented painter (obviously

). The diorama will present a night scene, where a group of space marines decimated sleeping orks in their camp. Here are some photos (work in progress, weeks to go, hope you like it!). I tried making every veteran a character in it's own right (sniper has a sword in case of close combat, explosives master has a looot of granades etc). They are uploaded on a 3rd party site. The guy with decimated armor is gonna run from flamethrower
Any feedback accepted, just don't be rude : )
