Hey guys I got into 40k February of 2014. I like a lot of the forge world stuff but what keeps me from buying is not knowing the order the IA books were released. Is there a way to know the order of them and what units they contain the rules for without having to get the book first. I don't mean to get rules without buying the book. I mean is there a way to find out that X unit is on Y book.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also asking cuz I don't want to buy a book to later find out there's a newer book with updated rules forbcertian units.

They were released in the order of the numbers on the books... Except for the second edition ones which I believe were released 2, 3 and then 4 still.

What sort of stuff do you want?

If you want Imperial Guard stuff then get Imperial Armour 1 Second Edition.

If you want astartes, GK, or SoB then you want IA2 Second Edition.

The books that are current are; IA1ed2, IA2ed2, IA3ed2, IA4ed2, IA12, and IA Apoc (make sure it looks like the one on the FW website, only the CWE and DE stuff is current though).

Thanks. Right now just astartes mostly. But I also wanted the guard stuff cuz the tanks look awesome. Oh and ork stuff.
So the second edition of the books are the current most up to date rules.

Just a note.

IA1 (which deals with the Guard) has not been updated since the release of Codex: AM. As such, while it is functional with 7th edition, some things may be slightly off.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Thanx. So whick one deals mostly with space marines then?

IA2 (2nd edition) has all of the space marine rules and fluff for their vehicles. If you aren't concerned about rules and just want the fluff most, if not all, of the other books have at least some marine stuff in them.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Also - Imperial Armour Aeronautica has all the fliers - but again a few have been updated by Codex: Astra Militerium

- 5000 (since 1996)
Harlequins/Ynnari -2500
Empire - 3000 (Current build)
