Drop Pod is a fast attack choice for Space Wolves if you ally SW you will be able to embark them I Drop Pod, so unless you ally them you can't.

just put the unit in a land raider, gives melta deepstrikers a nice decoy for their alpha strike , just to get wiped out the turn after.

If the LR blows its still ok because your mini deathstar was protected and will be able to make its points most of the time unless there is a wave 2 beta strike but even then there are a lot of points needed to wipe this squad entirely so you still have the rest of your army to deal with that hopefully.

At least it's only SW for now. If there's ever a FAQ update, certainly continuing the trend of allowing transports to be taken as Fast Attack will be granted to other factions. Ultimately, come the next SM codex, everyone that has access to Pods will be able to take them as Fast Attack.

DE vehicles can be taken as FA as well. I belive this will become a trend
