I have:

1 bat swarm
1 cave troll
and the mines of moria set (hopefully soon)
Which has 1 cave troll
24 Goblins.

To have a "standard force" what else should I look for?

I have played one game and I loved it! But no idea where I am going.

It was suggested to me to get 33 goblins, 2 cave trolls and 1 magic guy with some heroes to lead them.
Can you guys help me write a full army list so I can tick off the list as I buy more stuff?

Cheers

Well, you want a massive horde of Goblins, at least 30 so you can really press your numerical advantage, and make sure enough have spears that you can get all the attacks you can. This will form the bulk of your army. Having a load also means you will be less suceptible to the Break tests for losing half your army, which with their low Courage can wreck Goblin armies. Also make sure you have plenty of Captains and a Shaman or two sprinkled around, you'll be able make good use of their AoE buffs with a number of Goblins.

You then want the heavy hitters: Cave Trolls are the obvious choice, but you might also want to look at the Gundabad Blackshields if you can still get them, with S4 they should help you deal with high-Defence enemies.

Trolls are the reason I got into the game. Watched the movies for the first time and the troll face just was perfect.

So trolls are a must!

Ok so simply put, need more goblins and their leaders.

If you really wanted to you could build a force completely comprised of trolls and characters but it wont be overly competitive. The thing the goblin cave trolls dont have over others is the fight value only being 5. Against most armies that wont be an issue but against any elf army its going to hurt big time

Yea I saw how effective a swarm of goblins was in a small game so I will definitely take them.

What kind of magic do these guys get?

The only outright magic they have (outside the Balrog) is the Shaman, who can cast Frenzy, which gives everyone in 6" a 6+ chance to ignore any wound, which, when cast amid a horde is actually pretty useful. I think they also have one other spell, but without many Will points I think Frenzy will get to the most benefit.

On a side note, you might also want to grab some Wargs. fast moving and a tad tougher, they can be a nasty flanking force to tie up and kill hard-to-reach-for-Goblin threats.

Ok sounds good, what does the goblin drum do? Worth adding to the force as well as the shamans? I have half the drummer set.

I have one spider, is it worth expanding the spiders over the wolves? Or are wolves the better choice?

I'll be honest, no idea on the drum. I think it buffs either Courage or movement in a certain radius, but it's worth checking.

As for Wargs vs Spiders, I think a lot of that is preference. If I recall they're both pretty fast and killy, so whichever you feel like would work. Wargs are great models, though, so get my vote!

Sweet as, well since im building this force on the cheap (all second hand scraps so far) ill see what comes up. If its spiders Ill just chuck in spiders or wolves etc.

Well I was tempted to just turn the drummers into random fodder, but I may keep em handy and make a drum for them just in case.
