Got a lot of good feedback on my first submision on this site so I thought I'd start a thread where I post some of my strugles and perhaps I'll get a few good advice on the road.

The High elves are the first once I started but I don't seem to get the swords or eyes right so I'm not sure if it will ever be done.

The Skaven warpthrower I started last night and had really fun with the small rat that is on fire My wife didn't think the fire looked realistic but frankly I don't think thats what I'm trying to do

She's probably a closet Warhammer buff and meant that it should be green seeing as it's warpfire.
Check the back of her knicker drawer and inside the toilet cistern. You'll likely find a couple of Black library novels that she's been hiding from you.

Oli: Can I be an orc?
Everyone: No.
Oli: But it fits through the doors, Look!

North of your position

The faces on the Elves look a bit off, but I read you were going to put some work on your flesh, so eh!

Also, this, very much.

I've had some time last night to work on the Skaven warpthrower and decided to try and paint some flesh. This is as far as my knowledge at this moment takes me, anyone that has some tips on how to add more "Life", more "biological" into the fleash?
Also played around with some light rust on the front rat's armor and the symbol on the tank. Any comments? To much? To sublte? Not apropriate?

The Skaven warpfire thing is completed and in my "showcase thread" and I'm rushing forward to the next mini.

The mini has a lot of skin and I'm trying to get some sort of blending going here but I'm really struggeling. I have the basecoat laid down and I'm trying to put on the first highlight by painting muscles and then with a slightly wet brush I'm trying to "pull" the highlight down towards the area that just is basecoated. Instead of geting a nice fading between basecoat and highlight, the highlight starts creeping around just leaving a thin strip of color where the boarder of the highlight was.

Any suggestions as to whats wrong, to wet color? To gloss basecoat? I'm using citadel with tiny amounts of a cheap acrylic retarder.

Still looking for hints on how to do better highlights without getting visible change of color. I've been practicing on the red-ish color of the skin on this Helbrute. I understand that it could be a lot better but any beginner’s tips? Anything relatively easy that makes relatively big difference?

Sorry for the cellphone Pictures. I tried with a "real" camera but it just made it all look like the same red color.

Moved the Helbrute to my showcase thread. Time for something new.

I've been strugeling a bit with layering and highlights and most of the time I ended upp with quite visible borders between colors. Last few evenings I've been looking at some Youtube clips and trying to do what I saw and ended up with the skin on this orc. Any constructive critique is welcome!

To little or to much contrast? To large steps between layer? Should I push it even farther towards yellow? The Pictures are the best I could do at the moment.

No time for painting for almost a year but now I've managed to find some time that I choose to use on a Nurgle Chaos Lord. A few small things on the figure and a base left to do.
