So, I had about 1k points of Dark Eldar before the new book, but almost dropped 200 pts with the new one (
wtf!) so in my recent (and first battle) with the new codex I had to proxy some models to make do.
This is what I brought (against Daemons and Necrons. with an Eldar player and a Marine player on my team)
1 Archon, helm of spite, shadow field, huskblade, soul-trap, blaster. a bit of a mixed bag and certainly over kitted in price!
9 wyches with a hekatrix with agoniser in a Raider with night shields and aethersails, this was the 'body guard' of the Archon
10 Kabalites with a splinter cannon in a Raider with night shields, splinter racks and a dark lance.
2x5 Trueborn with 2 dark lances in each group
10 mandrakes with a nightfiend
4 reavers, caltrops, blaster and a champ' with agoniser, certainly want to add 2 more reavers at least and drop the champion.
Now, I never got to try out the damned Mandrakes (which I proxied with some old high elf archers, because that's what I had at home!)
failing to come in on two consecutive turns and the game was done at end of turn 3 and I realized I had forgotten all about them...
And I didn't get to try out the 'new' Reavers either, half of them died because a 3 up is waaay to hard a roll for me to actually pull off it seems, so they fled of the board turn 1.
The wierd thing is that the Wyches did great, they faced 15-18 necron warriors and an overlord and crushed them (by making them flee) and then killed a unit of Immortals.
I luckily rolled +1 toughness on their combat drugs so t4 wyches saving with 4++ and 5+
fnp. I lost two wyches in total to overwatch.
My archon couldn't scratch the Overlord and the overlord coulnd't get through the Archons
Ws and 2++.
Now is Drazhar worth it at 1k pts?
I counted that my über costly Archon with the wyches was actually 60 pts more expensive than 4 incubi with drazhar in a venom
So I made another list:
Drazhar, 4 incubi in a Venom with an extra splinter cannon
10 wyches, hekatrix with agoniser,
Raider, night shields, athersails
10 kabalites, splinter cannon
Raider, night shields, Splinter racks, Dark lance
2x5 Trueborn with 2 Dark lances each.
4 Reavers, Blaster, Caltrops
Now yeah I realize I still kept the Wyches so I took out the Mandrakes, reasoning that the wyches and Incubi/Drazhar are gonna double team in assaults or at least getting in the face of the opposing force at the same time.
Are these lists any good in a casual/semi-competetive environment? I ran the first list with the
DE specific formation (giving cover on turn 1).
Is the Drazhar and incubi bomb too much of a points sink in 1k matches?
Now I only have a modest starting force so I don't have Drazhar or Incubi yet... Or even a Venom, but they are on my wishlist of things to get (along with a myriad of units now...fml) so I wanted to throw this out there and see the reactions before I commited to getting Incubi/Drazhar.
