Troubled By Non-Compliant Worlds
|
I recently played a game against a friend using my Orks but this time I thought I'd try out a mechanized list instead of my footslogging orky ways. So through borrowing another Ork players truks, I loaded them up with boyz and just started to experiment. The game was 1500 points and it was against vanilla marines ( IF to be exact). During the game I didnt really know how to play truk boyz but I did try to prepare by having 3 truks full of sluggas and 3 full of shootas as a base group. Also I had a nob babysitting each one. My opponent ended up winning by quite a bit( 10-6; Ive seen worse), as we played maelstorm and honestly he didnt win through getting easy objectives either. I was a bit surprised when my boyz just seemed to be swatted away as they charged out of the truk only to get shot off the table before or after a little combat. So what Im interested in is how do you guys take your mech lists for boyz? IDK but its hard to have such low numbers with LD7 but there has to be some sort of strategy. Any advice would be much appreciated

Battlewagonz are your main strength as a mech ork.
If you want truckboy'z survivability, think about 'eavy armor for at least some of them but be careful not to overinvest.
Meganobz in a truck are doing good especially in a truck rush with target saturation.
Speed freaks synchronise exceptionally well with bikerboy'z deathstar (14 bikes + pk nob + bikerboss + painboss).
Use adequate ranged support - big guns, for example.
But we need your actual list to give advices other than some common wisdom.

Ork Boy Hangin' off a Trukk

Take it from a speed freak player, trukks are solid when you have 5 or 6 going flat out at your opponent. Don't bother shooting turn 1, just get as close as you can and hope only half your trukks get wrecked. If your running vehicles as an ork player you need to go 100% assault or your going to get shredded. The best part is being able to drive those empty trukks around the table scorinv objectives while da boyz tie up dem squishy gits

I feel the need, the need for speed. |

I'm not gonna lie, Pedro is no fun for you to face with greenskins. But with that many trukks, you should be able to gang up on your targets no matter who you're facing. Especially with marines having such a better armor save than you, you will need to outnumber them at least 2:1
I like having a KFF Mek on a bike (or even better, the extra-turbo-boosty relic bike) to race behind and give that 5++ to your vehicles, even fixin' em up sometimes. Once your boyz pile out turn 2, he can hide out near objectives or flame/charge some weaker units. Harrass those Devastators or Scouts a bit.
A Morkanaut could fulfill a similar role, but with more shooting at the cost of speed. You really only need that KFF bubble for a turn or two anyway.

Pedro and guyz don't like lobbas.
Also, you have lots of trucks with rams (i hope you do), so you can tank shock the enemy to get better positioning or to bunch them up nicely. Or you could just block LOS with trucks and safely controle the midfield.

The issue with trukks is that literally no one has trouble destroying them on your first turn, and there is little you can do about that. They don't exactly die to bolters anymore, but anything with a slightly higher strength can and will take out those AV10 paper boxes.
If you go first, that's not going to be a problem, but if you go second, you'll probably have half your army stranded if you rely on nothing but trukks, effectively paying points for one of the biggest errors you can do in list-building: mixing speeds.
Trukk boyz aren't completely terrible, but the aren't good enough to make a backbone of an army.
If you want pure mech orks, you should look to battlewagons, with no more than one or two trukks.
If you just want to go fasta, look to warbikers as core of your army and support them with boyz and MANz in trukks.
The key in both cases is to realize that trukk boyz are fast and flexible support units, they aren't meant to fight by themselves. Taking more than the minimum troops required for your detachment(s) is probably going to weaken your army compared to adding bikes or putting those boyz in wagons.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |
