I'm sure I'm not the only one out there that isn't a fan of paying $30 for one paint brush. Which brands give the most bang for my buck that also reasonably quality?

I went to Hershey Park in central PA this year, and I have to say I was more than a little disappointed. I fully expected the entire theme park to be make entirely of chocolate, but no. Here in America, we have "building codes," and some other nonsense about chocolate melting if don't store it someplace kept below room temperature. |

I normally get these brushes from hobby lobby.
http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/6-piece-gold-nylon-art-brush-set-839274/
Its only $6for the pack and if you go into the store you can get 40% off.
They are ok brushes but just dont last very long.

I have been using Raphael 8404's for a few years and they have been fantastic. I think I paid like $18 per brush.
Now that the EPA has decided to ban imports of Kolinski sabol (even though its from a weasel) It's getting harder and harder to find stuff.
SWM has a new line on their website from Schraff. Mr Justin is saying they are just as good as the Raphael brushes and I bought one, just have not used it yet.
I paid like $20 with shipping.

Is that what happened to the kolinski brushes? I wondered what happened with that. This is cool. I didn't know secret weapon sold brushes. Thanks!

American bureaucracy is what happened. Just Google "Kolinsky import ban" and you'll read all about it.

And some, I assume, are good people." |

I learned today that marike reimer uses mostly nylon brushes for almost everything so if its good enough for her (crystal brush winner) it can probably do what you need it to.

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

I use a combination of nylon, sable, goat hair and Chinese brushes. From brands like Sakura, Angelo, W&N and... unnamed Chinese brands.
When I was starting out I use small Chinese brushes mainly for detail work. I find them good enough at the time, and I could even do a bit of freehand with it. They are super cheap (16 pesos. $1 = 45 pesos, so go figure how cheap that is) and they last long. Given, they're not the super best but they're not bad. I still use them from time to time especially if I need some detailed dirty work that needs to be done.
And Marike Reimer uses nylon? That's pretty cool.
