So, I was looking at the model for Shadow Captain Korvydae on the Forgeworld site and in IA8 & I'd like t give my thoughts on the model

Cost: 155pts
This is the equivalent of a captain with a jump pack, a thunder hammer and artificer armour

What I Like About Him:
Assault squads are troops if he is your warlord (Though you also have to take at least one scout squad as well)
Free Melta Bombs
Hit & Run

What I Dislike About Him:
No chapter tactics (WTF?!)
Cannot Fleet

Like all Raven Guard characters, I think there is some room for improvement. I think it's a bit strange for a captain of the Raven Guard not to have chapter tactics. If Korvydae did have chapter tactics, I could easily say that he was better than a normal captain. Whether you should take him really depends on what your army is like. He suits a very fluffy Raven Guard army with lots of Assault Squads & Scouts. Being a Raven Guard player myself, I tend to use two ten man assault squads for my 2000pt setups. Considering that I have no other fast attack choices, there really isn't a need for me to take assault squads as troops, though I can see where this would be very useful. I would only really use him for his hit & run abilities, though they only affect the squad he is with. In my armies, I use a Chapter Master with a Jump Pack, Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs and either lightning claws or the burning blade and a storm shield (Depending on wether a unit of sniper scouts would be useful). What are your thoughts on Korvyade?

The compulsory scouts is not really a problem - if most of your Troops are ASM running up the field, a sniper scout squad holding down the fort is fine. He does not have Chapter Tactics simply because IA8 was written before the Space Marines 6th edition codex. From what I can tell, Forgeworld hasn't released an update PDF, but I don't think anyone will argue if you gave him Chapter Tactics in a game.
