The Plan –

Mainly facing Gun Lines and/or Firebases at the moment.

So 2 Dreads and a Tac Squad Drop Pod Assault first turn to cause as much havoc as possible.

Keep the Captain field to man the quad gun and hopefully control my table half. Centurions babysit the Captain.

Depending on how the games goes, deep strike the other pods where needed (hopefully back field, hence the beacons).

And thanks to Star Phantoms tactics, twin link everything on turn one once out of the drop pods (Hail of Destruction) and get to re-roll ones for reserve rolls throughout (Orbital Wave Attack).

No messing around with a psychic phase. Straight into the face of the enemy on turn one.

Battleship Captain

1) If the captain doesn't have a pistol, take a lightning claw or relic blade rather than a power sword. I'm guessing relic blade because I assume it's the clam-pack captain you're looking at.

2) If looking for 'to the face!' style drop assault, might I suggest Ironclad dreadnoughts are a better choice - yes, alright, lower WS/BS, but drop pod units should be in meltagun range if they need to kill tanks, and/or hurricane bolters up close and personal hurt like hell. More importantly, immunity to S6 fire is a very good thing between krak grenades and most eldar heavy weapons. I think they're cheaper, to boot.

3) Be warned that combat squads don't have all that much staying power. In a kill point game, you're feeding 5-man squads and AV12 vehicles to your opponent. In a multiple objective game, you can land where you want and sieze objectives but you'll be out of position to engage the enemy, or you can land, hail-of-destruction them, then try to fall back to the midfield objectives. Not necessarily unworkable, but not as easy as it sounds.

Hi, Great shout on the relic blade, thank you. I don't have ironclad models unfortunately (have the 2 venerable dreadnought models). Your points have definitely given me food for thought though
