Subject: Is the Death Korps of Krieg army list and siege tactics viable in actual play?

I'll be starting to build up my DKoK army soon and I was wondering if they are actually decent against all of the other armies with the DKoK siege tactics. I don't want to waste money on exclusive DKoK tanks that I wont even be using if the DKoK codex isn't good. So I would like some insight on that subject, thanks.

DKoK siege army list is pretty good if you play to it's strengths. The big advantages it has are delivering ObjSec Engineers using hades drills (you can follow up the drill with troop choice engineers) and bringing enough artillery to drown the opponent in shots. In my experience though you really need to bring an ally to either attach better damage dealers to the follow up drill units or characters to make the artillery more accurate (prescience inquisitors) and to buff the Ld so as to get orders off on the artillery (ignore cover medusa, earthshakers, and rapiers are nasty against serpents).
The DKoK models though also have an assault list (IA12) which is perhaps my favorite army list in the game right now as it has respawning infantry platoons and troop grenadiers in autocannon chimeras.
TBH though I usually play my DKoK models as astra militarum as people are more comfortable with that list and with the addition of forgeworld units it is a little more rounded for TAC play.

Spamming their artillery is a very strong army base. The fact they can be given orders and so cheap makes them fantastic. Twinlinked ignores cover earthshakers and medusas? Yes please. As the person above me stated though, taking their artillery in a standard guard army is not only more competitive but easier when playing people.

DKoK Siege and assault tactics seem fun but lack variety it seems like.

I wouldn't say that. They are fun, the siege list has 2-3 major varients (which is about the same as most of the books released). The assault list has ~5-8 variants I personally play and have found to be effective which is way above the average.
I play a siege army where I never repeat a unit choice more than 2 times (that being 2 drills w/ engineers and 2 engineer troop units). The nice part of this list is that the only real modeling difference between it and the AM lists is 10 engineer models become carapace vets that need transports. The siege list is free after all, however it does give the chance to take one unit of every kind of artillery available to the AM, which I like.
The assault list has one of the greatest varieties in play style of any of my armies. I play it as a grenadier heavy elite army sometimes. Sometimes as a endless waves of infantry. Sometimes I add Karamov from the inquisition so I can charge enemy units with my respawning infantry and then blow both units up with Karamov's orbital relay. This is also the army that can take spotter leman russ tanks to aim for your artillery so it makes an excellent combinations with either field artillery or allied heavy artillery. It also makes a great combo with LoW as the engineer in this list has the ability to increase the Str of a weapon by +1 therefore stormlord becomes god like in this list or a minotaur becomes much more accurate thanks to the spotter leman russ'. This is also the only way I ever run my 40 death riders as this list has enough aggressive elements that it becomes worthwhile.
